Namco Bandai's Noby Noby Boy is a curious "game." The downloadable PS3 thing was the last release from Katamari creator Keita Takahashi. It asked players to simply toy around with an incredibly stretchy creature. There was no way to "win," and there were no goals to pursue. However, the collective efforts of the online community would help Noby Noby Girl continue to grow and reach distant planets.
Last week, Noby Noby Boy players reached Uranus.

"In single player, the game allows BOY to eat another BOY as well as people and animals, etc," says Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi in a new PlayStation blog post.
"In Multiplayer though, eating everything has some funny consequences. For example, if the head of a 1P BOY eats the rear of a 2P BOY, the two players end up with a combined BOY. Head: Player 1, Rear: Player 2. Read more »

You'd think by now, after buying and playing the game a bit, that I wouldn't be amazed by Noby Noby Boy footage. And yet every frame of this video stuns me.

"What is a game? Should there be a definition for a game? That's the way I feel," writes Keita Takahashi, creator of Katamari Damacy and the upcoming Noby Noby Boy.
Noby, set to be released on PlayStation Network next Thursday for $5, was explained by Takahashi on the PlayStation blog: "Basically players can control and stretch Boy, the main character of the game. As players stretch Boy, the lengths to which he grows are uploaded to a persistent character known as Girl, who grows at the same rate as the combined length of all the players in the world. Nobi Nobi Boy, the new game from Katamari Damacy auteur Keita Takahashi, will be shown at the Tokyo Game Show late next week.
Though the game was unveiled last summer, virtually nothing has been heard about the game. Takahashi himself has remained silent about the game, only expressing his desire to do something new after the wacky rolling-everything-up sim Katamari Damacy became a cult classic worldwide--and a lucrative franchise for publisher Namco Bandai. Namco Bandai has unveiled the first details on the latest project from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. Titled Nobi Nobi Boy, the PlayStation 3 game apparently features a lengthy, worm-like protagonist who can twist around himself and other objects.
Takahashi, a formally trained artist, famously expressed frustration with Namco's handling of the series he created, decrying the video game industry's emphasis on constant sequels over newly developed material. He resisted taking part in the sequel Everybody Loves Katamari, but relented when Namco threatened to release the game as a quick rehash. Since then he has refused to participate in development on further Katamari games. Today's news marks the first indication as to the identity of Takahashi's post-Katamari projects.
Nobi Nobi Boy is currently only known to be in development for the PlayStation 3. No other information, such as further gameplay details or a release date, has been revealed. Shacknews has sent inquiries to Namco Bandai for a response on the matter.
