"Honestly speaking, none of us at Nintendo thought that our presentation at E3 was as good as it could have been," said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in a recent investor Q&A, explaining the company "could not fully convey the charm of our products."

A full one quarter of the demo stations in Nintendo's color-free booth is dedicated to the recently announced New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is exactly what you'd expect from a multiplayer Mario game--Mario, Luigi, and a couple Toads simultaneously running from left to right, hopping over pits, collecting coins, and stomping on koopas. It's not exactly a co-op game, and it's not necessarily competitive, either. It's whatever you make of it. If you're so inclined you can bounce on your friends' heads, steal their power-ups, or even pick them up and toss them down a pit. The first trailer for Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. Wii, announced this morning, shows cooperation and competion across several levels of the four-player title.

Nintendo today announced New Super Mario Bros. for Wii, a 2D Mario game that will support four player co-op.
The game resembles the Nintendo DS version of New Super Mario Bros, but allows up to 1-4 players to traverse the 2D levels as characters such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Toad. Players can switch between single-player and co-op at any time.
"We admit, we haven't quite figured out how to move [Mario] into a fourth dimension," said Nintendo's Cammie Dunaway. "But that number, four, that's the key to Mario's next surprise." Read more »
