June NPD: Lego Batman 2, Future Soldier top the charts

Even after all these iterations, licensed Lego games are still a hot item. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes topped the NPD charts for the month of June, beating out Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. It probably helps that the little brick Caped Crusader appeared on roughly twice as many platforms as most other games in the month. Diablo III had an impressive third place showing, despite being on only one platform.

Editorial: NBA 2K12 'Legends Showcase' should be a standalone game

Editorial: NBA 2K12 'Legends Showcase' should be a standalone game

#RIPNBA

With talks between the NBA and its players having broken down, fans are pouring their frustrated sentiments on various social media sites. 2K Sports should see this as an opportunity to position its upcoming "Legends Showcase" DLC for NBA 2K12 as a standalone game.

As an add-on to a retail game, 2K Sports is forcing fans who--more than ever may not buy this year's NBA 2K offering--into purchasing a $60 game in order to access content that's safeguarded from the politics of the NBA infighting. That decision may be short-sighted, especially when EA has already proven the success of an alternate model.

NBA 2K12 'Greatest' mode features Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, more

Putting basketball great and Bugs Bunny co-star Michael Jordan in NBA 2K11 worked out so well for 2K Sports that they're doing it again, and bringing several other classic basketball icons along with him. NBA 2K12 will feature an "NBA's Greatest" mode, which includes 15 historic teams with famous players like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Julius "Dr. J" Erving.

You can pit the classic teams against each other or current teams to determine if the classic Celtics led by Larry Bird could topple today's Lakers with Kobe Bryant or the Heat powered by LeBron James. Sorry, Cavs fans.
