Resident Evil 5 Demo Due Early 2009

The downloadable Resident Evil 5 demo for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will hit North America in "early 2009," developer and publisher Capcom tells MTV Multiplayer.

Resident Evil 5 JP Demo Coming Next Week (Update: PS3 Demo, US Release Confirmed)

Update: Capcom has confirmed to Shacknews that the downlodable Resident Evil 5 demo will hit both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America, though there is no announced timeframe.

The company hopes to pin down a specific demo date "soon," noting that the North American demo will arrive later than the Japanese version. Capcom also reaffirmed that Resident Evil 5 is on track for a March 13 release in North America and Europe, despite Capcom Japan bumping the Japanese release up to March 5. Read more »

Resident Evil 5 Demo Announcement 'Relatively Soon,' May Not Need to Install on PS3

A playable demo for Capcom's Resident Evil 5 (360, PS3) is in the cards for fans excited to get their hands on the latest in the best-selling survival horror series without having to pay.

"We'll be making an announcement about that relatively soon," producer Jun Takeuchi told Eurogamer, adding that the company is also considering downloadable content. "People seem to want it, so it's possible that it's something we would like to respond to," said Takeuchi. Read more »

Capcom Lists Resident Evil 5 PC (Updated)

Update: Following a Shacknews inquiry regarding a PC version of Resident Evil 5, Capcom neither confirmed nor or denied its existence.

In its response, the company merely stated that "Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will hit retail shelves on Friday the 13, March 2009 in North America and Europe," leaving the door open for a later PC release a la most Capcom PC games. Read more »

Resident Evil 5 Maker Capcom: No More Platform Exclusives

Resident Evil and Street Fighter developer Capcom has sworn off the practice of making "next-generation" games exclusive to one home console like the PS3 or Xbox 360.

"All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multi-platform games," reads Capcom's shareholder report for its fiscal year 2008, which ended on March 31 of this year.

RE5 Producer: Capcom 'Quite Surprised' by Racism Backlash, Claims Racially Diverse Workforce

The outrage and accusations of racism sparked by the first Resident Evil 5 (PS3, 360) trailer were entirely unexpected by developer Capcom, RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi told MTV Multiplayer.

"No, we certainly didn't anticipate the reaction," Takeuchi said. "We think it was a bit of a misunderstanding when we published the first images of the game back in the day. And we think that as we move along and allow people to see more the game and more of what's going on and more of the story, people will get a better idea of the game." Read more »

Resident Evil 5 Preview: Rock That Chainsaw

It's been a good few years for sequels—less of the radical changes and outlandish departures, and a more pronounced focus on making improvements where necessary while preserving what already functioned well. Resident Evil 5 is definitely among those games, as one of only two titles that successfully inspired cackles of glee as I witnessed my own head cut free from my body.

The other, of course, is Capcom's incredible Resident Evil 4 (GCN, PS2, Wii), a game from which this latest chapter in the company's long-running survival horror saga draws a great deal of inspiration. The successes of RE4 are intact and accounted for in this follow-up: a solid control scheme, an excellent camera, and the tension of third person action amid scores of encroaching foes. Read more »
