Gaming remakes have been somewhat of a mixed bag recently. Capcom's attempt at rebooting Bionic
Commando met with a lot of scorn from fans and critics, while Activision has had better success with its "pseudo-remake" of the Nintendo 64 classic, GoldenEye.
Hoping to release a product closer to the latter, Namco Bandai tasked BottleRocket with crafting a remake of Splatterhouse--the 1988 arcade, horror game. Early last year, Namco Bandai abruptly pulled BottleRocket from the project and assigned the game to their internal development team, with only a few of the original developers remaining on the project. QUICK TAKE: With a ridiculous amount of violence and blood joined by some puzzle solving, this classic franchise is coming back with a vengeance. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you're looking for heavy action that doesn't take itself too seriously then Splatterhouse is for you.
A remake of the 1988 classic arcade game, Splatterhouse was one of the most prominent titles at Namco's E3 2010 booth. Longtime gamers will be drawn by the old brand, wondering what a reimagined and modern Splatterhouse is like. Newcomers will be drawn by the crazy action, slick graphics, and gratuitous amount of blood. The gameplay shown at E3 was fast, fun, and stylish. Read more »

Some incredibly violent screenshots for Namco Bandai's next-gen remake of the 1988 classic Splatterhouse franchise have bludgeoned their way into the daylight. You can almost hear the the wet, thudding smacks of Rick's spiked bat as he turns hordes of the game's mutated horrors into crimson stains.
As previously reported, the game began development at the now-defunct indie studio, BottleRocket, but has since been taken over by Namco Bandai's internal Afro Samurai development team. Read more »

Mythos, the PC action RPG created by the now-defunct Flagship Studios, will be receiving a free-to-play release in the US, current developer Redbana announced today.
Redbana's fellow T3 Entertainment subsidiary HanbitSoft picked up the rights to Mythos following the collapse of Flagship. The Mythos site is now accepting signups for an upcoming US closed beta test, while a South Korean counterpart is already underway. Read more »

In an announcement highlighting the revelation of "exclusive" Splatterhouse-branded shoes, developer Namco also passed along some new screenshots and artwork from the game.

Once due sometime this year and then postponed to "early 2010" after developer BottleRocket was pulled off the project, Namco Bandai's Splatterhouse--a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 revamp of the classic horror franchise--has been delayed again.
In issuing several new screenshots of the game, Namco today provided word that Splatterhouse is now slated to arrive in Q3 2010--a period that runs from July 1 through September 30. The reasons behind the delay were not specified. Read more »

After seeing both of its most recent projects fall through, independent developer BottleRocket has closed its doors, though its founder is planning a new studio.
"After fighting to keep the doors open for the past six months we have decided to close and move on," studio founder Jay Beard informed GamesIndustry.biz. Read more »
