July NPD: NCAA Football 12 leads; overall retail sales down 26%

Market research firm NPD Group's retail-only data for the month of July has been released, with Electronic Art's latest college football entry, NCAA Football 12 taking top honors. NCAA 12 sold the best this July, "realizing a 15% increase in unit sales versus NCAA 11 in July 2010." That aside, "video game sales in the new physical retail channel suffered its lowest month since October 2006," noted NPD Analyst, Anita Frazier. New sales are down four percent, year-to-date, with a projected year-end sales figure that's two percent less than last year.

Mortal Kombat Legacy hits Blu-ray November 8

It's been a banner year for the Mortal Kombat series. Not only did the franchise get a fresh reboot, but a film pitch from a director/fan turned into a full-blown web series. Now Warner Bros. is packaging those webisodes into a Blu-ray, set to hit November 8 for $19.98.

Four DLC characters were promised for Mortal Kombat. We've seen Skarlet, Kenshi, and Rain. So who's next? Well, it's a bit of a shocker.

Mortal Kombat 'Kenshi' due July 5

Mortal Kombat is paving the way for its next kombatant, the blind warrior Kenshi. NetherRealm Studios has announced that the new downloadable character will be available July 5 on Xbox Live, and July 6 on PlayStation Network for $5 (400 Microsoft Points). If you want to save a few bucks on DLC for the Xbox 360 version, you can get the Season Pass for all four characters.

Each downloadable character is set to come alongside a free Klassic Skins compatibility pack, as previously announced. Unfortunately, NetherRealm made no mention of which skins will be included in this set. Read more »

NetherRealms Studios and Warner Bros Interactive has taken the proverbial wraps off of its character downloadable content plans for Mortal Kombat. As previously reported, Skarlet will come first. The blood-thirsty ninja who is literally made of blood will hit the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on June 21 for $4.99 and 400 MSP, respectively.

That date will also bring a free compatibility pack, letting you fight online against Skarlet even if you haven't downloaded her. The free pack will include "klassic" skins for Cyrax and Sektor, straight from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boon had previously promised free content with the purchase of the Skarlet DLC. Read more »

Mortal Kombat is getting its first downloadable content pack on June 7, Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios announced today.

The Klassic Skins pack gathers up the retailer-exclusive pre-order bonuses into one package, including the old-school costumes for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Mileena, Jade, and Kitana, plus classic (with a K) fatalities for Reptile, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero.
