Capcom net sales slump 29%

Capcom has reported its earnings for the nine-month period ending December 31, 2011, and it shows a net sales loss. The company's net sales were approximately $661 million, down 29% year-over-year, and operating income dropped 47.2%. In the remaining three months of fiscal 2011, Capcom is planning on sell 2 million copies each of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Street Fighter X Tekken.

PSP games getting PS3 HD 'Remasters'

Sony Computer Entertainment announced a new initiative over the weekend to bring select PlayStation Portable titles to the PlayStation 3 in Japan, with an HD makeover and new features on Blu-ray discs. It's called the "PSP Remaster" series, and will feature high-def visuals, PS3 controller support, plus potential new add-on content or 3D support. If you already have a PSP game save, the Remaster will be able to read the save so you can continue on it, and you can switch back to playing on your PSP via the ad hoc function. How meta.

The first game to get the Remaster treatment will be Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, a sales hit in Japan with 4.5 million units sold since its release in December 2010. Sony teased upgraded graphics for the remake, but was cagey on any other new features being added. Read more »

Capcom sees record revenues in FY2011

Capcom sees record revenues in FY2011

Capcom revealed its earnings for fiscal year 2011, which ended on March 31, and unlike last year it's good news for the company. Net sales increased 46.2% to 97.7 billion yen ($1.2 billion). Operating income was up 155.8%, and ordinary income was up 132.6%. Net income increased to 7.7 billion yen ($95 million), up a whopping 257.6% from the prior year. The company says this marks record net sales, operating income, ordinary income, and net income.

Monster Hunter Freedom 3 was credited for a large part of the profits, which shipped more than 4.6 million units and became the fastest-selling PSP game. Capcom also credited Western-focused games Dead Rising 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 3 for two million units each. In alternative revenue streams, the company said the online title Monster Hunter Frontier Online showed "solid performance," and the Facebook and iOS social game Smurfs Village had a surprising level of downloads. New PSP Monster Hunter Gets Metal Gear Content

The PSP collaboration between Monster Hunter and Metal Gear Solid, which began with MGS: Peace Walker's inclusion of Monster Hunter-inspired content, will yield another content cross-over. (via Joystiq).

The latest PSP installment of the popular Monster Hunter franchise, Portable 3rd, will conversely include content inspired by Metal Gear Solid. The content is said to include armor that will make a player's character look like Snake (Big Boss) or Metal Gear Solid 3's The Boss. Read more »

New Monster Hunter PSP Coming to Japan in 2010

With Monster Hunter Tri on the way for American Wii owners (complete with free online-play), Capcom Japan decided it was time to announce the next game in the ridiculously popular franchise.

Joystiq spotted the product page for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which will be hitting Japanese PSPs sometime in 2010. It will be the highest selling game in Japan for a while after launching. Read more »
