Capcom sees record revenues in FY2011

Capcom revealed its earnings for fiscal year 2011, which ended on March 31, and unlike last year it's good news for the company. Net sales increased 46.2% to 97.7 billion yen ($1.2 billion). Operating income was up 155.8%, and ordinary income was up 132.6%. Net income increased to 7.7 billion yen ($95 million), up a whopping 257.6% from the prior year. The company says this marks record net sales, operating income, ordinary income, and net income.

Monster Hunter Freedom 3 was credited for a large part of the profits, which shipped more than 4.6 million units and became the fastest-selling PSP game. Capcom also credited Western-focused games Dead Rising 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 3 for two million units each. In alternative revenue streams, the company said the online title Monster Hunter Frontier Online showed "solid performance," and the Facebook and iOS social game Smurfs Village had a surprising level of downloads. Monster Hunter Frontier Online, Xbox 360 Hardware Sales See Significant Decline in Japan

Last week, the Xbox 360 saw an 800% increase in hardware sales in Japan; however, this week Microsoft's home console have seen a substantial drop in sales, according to data released by Media Create (Translated). For the period of June 21 to 27, the Xbox 360 sold 17,370 units in the Land of the Rising Sun versus 7,303 units for the period of June 28 to July 4. Also plummeting from the sales charts was Capcom's Monster Hunter Frontier Online, which fell from its first place spot the week ending June 27 to fourteenth this week. Read more »

Xbox 360 Hardware Sees Sales Boost in Japan, Thanks to Monster Hunter

The Xbox 360 is enjoying a sudden boost in hardware sales in Japan, thanks, in large part, to the recent release of Monster Hunter Frontier Online, Eurogamer reports. Sales figures in the region for the week ending June 27 feature a significant increase for Microsoft's system; up 17,370 units from 2,060 the previous week.

Capcom Teases Monster Hunter MMO for West

Though the Xbox 360 release of Monster Hunter MMO Frontier Online is only confirmed for Japan at the moment, publisher Capcom has implied that an overseas release is likely.

"I feel Monster Hunter can definitely succeed overseas," Capcom executive Keiji Inafune told Famitsu, as noted and translated by andriasang. "There's a high possibility that MHF will kickstart that." Read more »

Monster Hunter MMO Coming to Xbox 360

Capcom's massively multiplayer take on its popular Monster Hunter franchise is coming to Xbox 360 in the form of Monster Hunter Frontier Online, the company revealed today.

Monster Hunter Frontier Online will launch on Xbox 360 in Japan sometime in summer 2010, joining the previously released PC edition already running in Japan and Asia.
