Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes review: mission briefing

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes review: mission briefing

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is only a taste of what to expect from The Phantom Pain. It's an effective encapsulation of how Metal Gear is attempting to evolve for the next generation, and teases most of its tools and revisions smartly. However, it's so incredibly brief that this nugget of a game becomes difficult to recommend--and raises concerns about the full adventure.

Solid Snake named for animal influence, says Kojima

Solid Snake named for animal influence, says Kojima

Metal Gear Solid's main character, Solid Snake, has the gravel voice and mullet of Snake Plissken from the Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. films. But even with creator Hideo Kojima's film-loving sensibilities, and contrary to some previous comments, his name had more to do with the reputation of his animal namesake than the Kurt Russell character.

The DLC will give players "additional resources" for a Mother Base area that's introduced in Ground Zeroes and plays a "central role" in The Phantom Pain. According to Konami, players will get "an edge" with the add-on.
