Mass Effect 3 can't import cloud saves on Xbox 360

Mass Effect 3 can't import cloud saves on Xbox 360

Cloud saving can be a helpful convenience for Xbox Live Gold members that take advantage of it. However, Mass Effect fans are advised not to use the feature. Electronic Arts notes that Xbox 360 gamers who intend to import Commander Shepard into Mass Effect 3 via a completed save file from Mass Effect 2 had best do so directly from the hard drive of the console on which they completed the series' second chapter. Apparently, trying to import a Mass Effect 2 end-game save via Xbox 360 cloud storage won't work.

Mass Effect 3 is giving BioWare another chance to include content that was originally planned for Mass Effect 2, according to lead writer Mac Walters. The cut mission took place on the Citadel, which played a major role in the ending of the first game.

"That's the nice thing about trilogies," Walters said. "Sometimes you get a second chance."

Mass Effect gets animated next summer

Mass Effect gets animated next summer

The Mass Effect series is already pretty cinematic, but it's about to get even more so. BioWare and Electronic Arts announced a deal with FUNimation Entertainment today, to produce a Mass Effect anime movie. Work on the movie has already begun, and it's due in stores (not theaters) in summer of 2012. T.O Entertainment, which is also handling the Dragon Age anime, has signed on as co-producer.

The movie will take place within the Mass Effect universe, but the annoucment doesn't mention the series protagonist Shepard. More likely, this movie will expand the universe like the series of Drew Karpyshyn-penned novels, or the movies EA has financed to cross-promote Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. Read more »

Mass Effect 2: Arrival trailer marks DLC launch

The final piece of Mass Effect 2 downloadable content, Arrival, launches today for all three platforms. In celebration, BioWare has released a trailer giving a peek at just what Shepard will be getting herself into. There's also a lot of some boring shaven-headed chap in N7 armour, for some reason.

Arrival leads into the Reaper invasion of Earth in Mass Effect 3, sending Shepard on a mission to rescue an undercover operative with evidence of the Reaper's plans. She also gets a look at Lance Henriksen's character, Admiral Hackett of the Alliance Navy, who has only been present as a voice so far. Read more »

Mass Effect 2: Arrival DLC due this month

The final piece of Mass Effect 2 downloadable content will pave the way for the Reaper invasion of Earth in Mass Effect 3 when it launches later this month, publisher EA announced today.

The 'Arrival' DLC will see Shepard and chums "sent to the edge of the galaxy to rescue an undercover operative who may have evidence of an imminent Reaper invasion." The Lance Henriksen-voiced Admiral Hackett of the Alliance Navy is said to play "a prominent role" in Arrival. Hopefully we'll finally get to put a weathered face to the gravely voice that's been doling out missions over the Normandy's comms channel. Read more »

Mass Effect 2 'Cerberus Network' Goes on Vacation; New 'Pre-Mass Effect 3' DLC Teased

Related Topics – Mass Effect 2, xbox 360, DLC, PlayStation 3, PC

It looks like Mass Effect 2's content and information network "Cerberus" has decided to take a last minute vacation. Kotaku spotted a news update within the Mass Effect 2 network computer revealing that the service will halt updates soon after the game's one year anniversary, on January 24.

The Cerberus Network offered users daily updates to the Mass Effect universe, often fleshing out the background of the series in text as well as through free downloadable content.
