Sony may be looking to close its first-party developer Zipper Interactive, maker of the SOCOM series and MAG. According to the rumor, the studio is already in the process of being shut down, though Sony has yet to issue an official comment either refuting or denying the mounting speculation.

MAG is getting ready to celebrate its first birthday, and will be offering extra XP and developer play sessions to mark the occasion. The PlayStation Blog detailed the festivities, which kick off at midnight tonight.
Starting on January 26 at 12 a.m. PST, all in-game queue and "Happy Hour" bonuses will count for 256% their usual value. The XP-grinding lasts until this Sunday, January 30 at 11:59 p.m. Plus, if you jump into a game tomorrow between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. PST, you may find members of the Zipper staff on your team. PlayStation.Blog has announced that a new downloadable 'Escalation Add-on Pack' for Zipper Interactive's MAG will be available via the PlayStation Network on November 2 for $9.99.
'Escalation,' which made its initial appearance during the last MAG beta, "supports up to 96 players, or one 32-man platoon for each PMC, as a separate in-game mode that pits the forces of Raven, SVER, and Valor against each other at the same time." The PMC who achieves the requisite number of points first, or has the most points when the round ends, wins the match and some additional Shadow War points. Read more »

The "2.0" patch for Zipper Interactive's MAG is now available, according to the PlayStation Blog. "PlayStation Move support, an increased level cap, our revamped skill tree, the new economy system, and our highly-demanded clan deploy feature" headline the update.
The full patch notes are quite long and can be viewed at the official MAG site. I haven't played the game recently enough to be able to pull out any earth-shattering changes, but I'll probably patch up and check out the game again. Read more »

[Update - 4:30PM] Though it will not be added to the Greatest Hits library, Sony has dropped the price of ModNation Racers to $39.99 on the PS3 and to $19.99 on the PSP.

Sony has announced at Gamescom 2010 that Zipper Interactive's MAG will be getting PlayStation Move support through a game update. No release date for the patch has been announced.
Zipper is also working on SOCOM 4, which will also support Move. It is likely that the work done on integrating Move into SOCOM 4 is being retrofitted to MAG as an easy value-add. It will also represent your first chance to play a Zipper shooter with Move as SOCOM 4 was delayed into 2011.

Sony's faction-based, 256-player FPS MAG has received "faction neutral" map selection for one of its game modes, Sabotage. Players choose one of three factions when creating an online character, but are limited to playing maps according to the current standing of the game's persistent "Shadow War".

The first premium-priced downloadable expansion for Zipper Interactive's online PlayStation 3 shooter MAG will hit on June 22, the developer has revealed.
Dubbed "Interdiction," the $9.99 add-on brings with it a new game mode of the same name, along with three new maps--Lake Bayano Spur, Sovot Motorway, Iron Cree Quarry--along with the "Heavy Improved" armor plus new medals, ribbons, and trophies.

Zipper Interactive's multiplayer shooter MAG is getting another free downloadable content bundle, according to the official PlayStation.Blog. The 'Fast Attack' DLC adds new weapon and armor options to the game's existing arsenal.
Improved Light Armor
Available for download from the PlayStation Store on April 29, the 'Fast Attack' Gear Pack includes newly tweaked versions of three of the game's sniper rifles (Raven's HM 90 SE, SVER's SASR M, and Valor's MK 14 Mod 1 EBR), as well as a new armor type called Improved Light Armor, which can be purchased by members of all three factions for 400 in-game credits.
