Bayonetta and Vanquish developer PlatinumGames is working on a new action game with online multiplayer, according to an Andriasang translation of the latest issue of Japanese video games magazine Famitsu.
Dubbed Max Anarchy, the game is said to be a melee-focused "fighting game," though producer Atsushi Inaba added that it's really a new type of game and coined the genre name "multiplayer melee fighting action." As well as a regular campaign, it'll support multiplayer modes with large numbers of players, including what Andriasang calls "cooperative elements" and "free-for-all combat." Inaba seemed confident Platinum could make large-scale multiplayer melee combat without synchronisation problems. Read more »

"MadWorld sales were very disappointing," admitted Sega president Mike Hayes to Wired, "but was that to do with the platform? Was it that people didn’t like the art style? Or that people didn’t like the way the game played through? It could be many things, which we're obviously researching." Read more »

This trailer of Platinum Games' MadWorld (Wii) calls to mind Smash TV and Running Man, while using a weak SportsCenter-esque presentation to drive home the game's concept.
The highly-stylized action title centers around a Jack, a chainsaw-armed dude battling to the death on a television show. A major hook of the game is environmental interaction, with plenty of Wii Remote-activated animations leading to grisly deaths. Read more »

So we know Nintendo has the market cornered on Wii brain trainers, and walking trainers, and games about collecting bells. But what is there for us, the hardcore gamers? What about the people that dabble in Mario, but want nothing more than to ignore that bell business, kill that obnoxious Tom Nook and take his loot?

I wanted to know whether I should expect four more months of the same, or some real change from Nintendo's platform. Read more »
