August 2013 NPD: Madden and Saints Row top the charts

Americans sure do love football. Madden NFL 25 topped the charts--following last month's NCAA Football.

But people bought non-football games as well. In fact, the top 10 is dominated by new games, including Saints Row 4 and Disney Infinity. The NPD Group's Liam Callahan points out that Xbox 360 and PS3 software sales are only down 1% year-to-date. Madden NFL 25 will be a launch game for PS4 and Xbox One

Unsurprisingly, EA Sports' Madden NFL 25 will make it in time for the console launches of both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The next-gen versions will be powered by the EA Sports Ignite engine, which promises to offer "10x the detail" with "4x the texture resolution" of the current-gen versions. (Current-gen version pictured above, next-gen video after the break.)

Not only will the next-gen versions have shinier graphics, it will also have Adrian Peterson as a special next-gen cover athlete. Perhaps he will get an exclusive next-gen version of the Madden curse.
