Madden NFL 2002 Tips & Tricks

• Cracked helmet

  Play an AFC vs. NFC Pro Bowl game at Aloha Stadium in season mode. During the game, get a player's helmet popped off (try getting hit in the middle of a throw). After that same play, view an instant replay and zoom in on the helmet that popped off to see that it is cracked.

• Unlimited money in franchise mode

  First, select season mode. Next, choose a team, but do not select "Start" yet. Go to "Salary Cap" and change it to "No". Play all the games of your season. When a prmpt appears asking you to convert season to franchise, select "OK". Choose your team to play with again and resume to the off-season schedule. When you want to sign a player, you will see "No Cap" at the top. You may now sign anyone of your choice.

• Good protection

  To get good protection on kick returns, choose "Onside Kick" as your play. When you run back the ball, you will usually get past the 20.

• Avoid tackles

  Stop running for a moment. You can sometimes easily avoid being tackled. Sometimes you will need to juke, spin, or stiff arm to get past defenders.

• Easy passes

  When you are the QB, you can throw the ball two different ways: straight (hold the button of the receiver you want to throw it to) and up high (press and release the button for that receiver). When you throw it up high, the QB will throw the ball over the safety to your receiver. He will catch the ball most of the time. Throwing it straight is the most common way. He just throws it to the receiver and it will not go over the safety. It is best to use the straight pass if the WR is wide open.

• Easy recovery

  Use the following trick to always recover the ball when kicking. Go to a play where most of your players are on the left. When kicking, put the arrow to the bottom left and kick at full power. Your players will have a very good chance to keep the ball.

• Easy sacks

  In easy mode, go on the other side of the line of scrimmage and stand in front of the quarterback. Remain there in front of him until he hikes the ball, then tackle him. Make sure you do not touch anybody while getting in front of him. On defense, pick the defensive formation "4-3," then pick the play "Whip Man." After the offense chooses their play, shift your four linemen to the left (C-stick Left) and shift your three linebackers to the right (R) before the snap. Chances are the ROLB (right outside line backer) will take the quarterback down. The DT(defensive tackle) might also sack the quarterback if the ROLB is held in the line. REMEMBER: To get better results, either choose the ECKO team or pump up your favorite team's defense.

• Easy 2-point conversion

  After you score a touchdown, select the "Ask Madden" button. He will almost always suggest kicking a field goal. Instead, go up one set of plays, and pick the play "RB Direct Snap". No matter what defense you are playing against, you will always get the 2-point conversion. REMEMBER: If you cannot get in immediately, press B to dive near the goal line.

• Created player announced

  Give a created player a pro's last name to hear his name announced.

• Get the ball at the start

  Set the weather to "Heavy Rain" before the game. If the CPU wins the coin toss, it will choose to kick most of the time.

• Perfect team

  During the season mode, go to rosters, and choose "Edit Player". Choose any player and go to "Attributes" Move everything to 99 for every player.

• Have better catches

  If you want a better catching percentage, when the player puts his hands in the air (at the last second and most of the time misses), push Catch a second or a half a second before you reach the target of the ball, or before the ball reaches the receiver. You will get a better catches, including many fancy catches.

• Get easy sacks

  When choosing a play on defense, turn to the 3-4 then push X. Go to the play where the three right-most linebackers are blitzing (press Down(3), Circle) then bring your left-most linebacker up. You will now have seven men blitzing for easier sacks.
