A U.S. District Court judge in California has cleared the way today for a class-action suit by former NFL players to continue over the objections of Madden NFL franchise publisher Electronic Arts. The suit represents more than 6,000 retired players, including Tony Davis, Vince Ferragamo and Billy Joe DuPree.

Retired NFL Vets File Class-Action Lawsuit Against EA for Likenesses in Madden NFL 09

Another lawsuit over player likenesses has been filed against EA, this time pitting over 6,000 retired NFL players against the company in a class-action lawsuit regarding content in Madden NFL 09.

According to IGN UK, the lawsuit claims Madden NFL 09 uses statistics and positions of NFL veterans but, in an effort to circumvent paying licensing fees, EA Sports changed uniform numbers and removed names from the players. Read more »

Capcom Gives Up on 'Foreign' Original Titles

Japanese developer and publisher Capcom intends to stop commissioning original games from foreign developers as part of the response to its recent revelation that profits dropped 73% over the last year, 1up spotted the Financial Times reporting.

"As a group, the new titles where development was led from abroad didn't do so well," Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto told the newspaper. Capcom's annual financial report blamed the poor sales performance of foreign projects Bionic Commando and Dark Void in part for the past year's profits plummet, among other factors. Read more »

Capcom Reports 73% Drop in Profits Last Year

Capcom's annual financial results reveal the developer and publisher's profits dropped 73.1%--2,167 million Yen, or $23.5 million US--in the past year as compared to 2009.

Capcom explains that Bionic Commando, Dark Void and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles "underperformed their sales and remained weak" while the postponing of Lost Planet 2 and Super Street Fighter IV to its 2011 financial year didn't help either. Read more »

Report: Bionic Commando Dev GRIN In Trouble

Swedish developer GRIN, most notably responsible for the recent Bionic Commando games, could be on its way to closing altogether according to a new Gamasutra report.

The company has already closed its studios in Barcelona and Gothenburg, and un-smiling employees have recently been told not to show up to work at its Stockholm headquarters. Read more »

Bionic Commando, Rearmed Bundled on Steam

Capcom today added the newly-released Bionic Commando and the previously-released Bionic Commando Rearmed to Steam.

Bionic Commando and Rearmed are available for $40 and $10 respectively, or for $45 as a convenient bundle.

Bionic Commando PC Release Dates Confirmed

As Street Fighter IV PC rolls out to retailers worldwide, publisher Capcom has provided release dates for the belated PC edition of GRIN's action game Bionic Commando.

Specifically, Bionic Commando PC hits Europe on July 17, with the North American release following on July 28. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions hit earlier this year. Read more »

Resident Evil 5 PC Official, Hitting Later This Year; Street Fighter 4, Bionic Commando PC in July

Surprising no one, developer Capcom today confirmed that the oft-rumored PC version of Resident Evil 5 will arrive "later in the year," with the PC editions of Street Fighter IV and Bionic Commando due in July. All three will be sold via retail and digital distribution.

"All three games will be optimized for the PC platform and will have new PC-specific features added to the already great games," wrote Capcom. Both Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 earlier this year, with the console edition of GRIN's swinging action game Bionic Commando slated to hit on May 19. Bionic Commando Demo Hits Xbox 360 Tomorrow, New Trailer Arrives

Continuing today's Capcom craziness, the publisher has announced that the Xbox 360-only Bionic Commando multiplayer demo will arrive on Wednesday, April 29.

The demo packs one map, which supports deathmatch play for up to eight gamers. Capcom previously told Shacknews that it had "no plans" to release the demo on PC and PlayStation 3, and likewise had no plans for a single-player demo at the time. Read more »

Bionic Commando Multiplayer Demo 'Coming Soon,' Exclusively on Xbox 360 (Updated)

Update: Capcom has confirmed that the Bionic Commando multiplayer demo is an Xbox 360 exclusive, telling Shacknews that it has "no plans for a PC or PS3 demo." When asked why, a representative from Capcom told us they had "no comment."

Additionally, the rep noted that there are no plans for a single-player demo "at this time."
