LittleBigPlanet 2 continues to get less little. Sony's platformer is getting yet another significant expansion next week: the Cross-Controller Pack, which introduces Wii U-esque gameplay via Vita.
With the Cross-Controller feature, you'll be able to take advantage of all sorts of second screen gameplay. The DLC will be available next week for $4.99 and requires a PS3, a PS Vita, and a copy of LittleBigPlanet 2. (Don't worry, you don't need a copy of LittleBigPlanet Vita.)

The Muppets are next to join the elite rank of official LittleBigPlanet expansion pack adaptee, following the revered footsteps of Metal Gear Solid and Pirates of the Caribbean.
The "Muppets Premium Level Kit" for LittleBigPlanet 2 will be available this week on the PlayStation Store for $5.99, and it will add new levels, music, materials, backgrounds, sound effects, objects, decorations, stickers, and costumes to the game. The expansion pack also adds new gadgets that allow Sackboy to walk on walls.

It's been one year since the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2, and the community is still very actively making new levels. Developer Media Molecule has announced that within a year's time, the community has created 2.5 million more levels, bumping up the total amount of user-created levels to a whopping six million.
"6 Million levels!," the announcement reads. "You are amazing! <3"

LittleBigPlanet 2 is the quintessential sequel. It is, in every way, a bigger, better, and yes, more badass game than its predecessor. LBP2 does more than offer "more of the same." Given the original's infinite expandability offered by the UGC community, it's no wonder Media Molecule attempted something drastically different for the sequel.

Like its predecessor, LittleBigPlanet 2 is getting a re-release of its own. Dropping the "Game of the Year" moniker as the first game, LittleBigPlanet 2: Special Edition is a full-priced retail game that includes $35 worth of DLC content on-disc.
Rise of the Cakeling, Media Molecule's biggest expansion for the LBP universe, takes center stage. This PlayStation Move-enabled adventure adds 5 new levels and new creation tools that take advantage of Sony's motion controller. In addition, the Special Edition includes the Toy Story Level and Costume packs, and Pets costumes.

Media Molecule is planning on "stepping away" from the LittleBigPlanet franchise to work on something new. But before it does, it has to release the Move Pack for LittleBigPlanet 2. The developer describes it as the franchise's "biggest Downloadable Content pack to date," and it's hard to argue with that.
The Move Pack includes a new story mode, entitled "The Rise of the Cakeling," and a new set of tools that allow you to create your own Move games. But what else is in the DLC pack?

Developer Media Molecule is ready to move beyond the franchise that made it famous. Speaking at Game Lab, Media Molecule's Siobhan Ready told the audience: "we’re stepping away from LittleBigPlanet to focus on some new ideas." (via Edge)
This development should come as unsurprising to anyone that's experimented with the robust creation engine of LittleBigPlanet 2. Whereas its predecessor allowed gamers to make new levels, Media Molecule's last effort offered full game creation. One would assume it would be difficult to truly iterate from there. Read more »

For the past few days I've been playing LittleBigPlanet 2. The simple fact that I've been playing--as opposed to getting caught up in creating--stands out to me as a good sign for this sequel. When the original game came out a couple years ago, the novelty of being able to create intricate game levels initially drew the lion's share of attention.
That led to something of a letdown when it came time to play them; and their potential fun seemed to get somewhat lost in controls that didn't quite feel right. Read more »
