At this point, we've seen more drama surrounding the development of The Last Guardian than we have actual gameplay footage. The next game from Team Ico has been plagued by extensive delays, and was purportedly "canceled" after game designer Fumito Ueda resigned from the company to work as a contractor. With no release date in sight, how is The Last Guardian shaping up?
According to Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, the game is still "making progress," but adds that it is "slow progress."

[Update] Shacker SlamDunk spotted an update on IGN where GameStop has appeared to have changed their tune on The Last Guardian, saying: "The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."

Development behind long-delayed PS3-exclusive The Last Guardian is sure to end in an exposé, not unlike the one seen for LA Noire. Earlier this week, it was rumored that director and iconic games director Fumito Ueda had resigned from Sony, to continue work on the follow-up to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in a freelance form. Today, there's confirmation that the game's executive producer has departed.
Yoshifusa Hayama, has left Sony to join social games company Bossa Studios, developers of Monstermind for Facebook.

Brace yourselves Last Guardian fans, as things appear to have potentially taken another turn for the worse. Fumito Ueda, head of highly regarded Team Ico, is rumored to be leaving his post. All may not be lost, as he is said to be staying on in a freelance capacity to see the game through to completion. If true, though, it could be a blow to future potential PlayStation exclusives, with Last Guardian closing a relationship that resulted in critical darlings, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus.

Sony debuted a new trailer for the much-anticipated The Last Guardian at the Tokyo Game Show. Afterwards, the game's director, Fumito Ueda, gave a brief update on development and answered a few questions. This caused problems so for this game they wanted to complete the R&D work before going into full-scale production. They feel they've reached that point and are going into full crunch mode now.
