Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer shows off new abilities and enemies

Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer shows off new abilities and enemies

It still sounds like a dream. After years of portable spin-offs, Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally a real game. To prove that it's more than just an idea, Square Enix has released yet another trailer at D23 Expo in Japan, once again focused on gameplay. The new video shows off some of the new abilities and attacks Sora and the gang can use, while also showcasing the game's new enemies.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is due for PS4 and Xbox One, although director Tetsuya Nomura did warn that they may have announced it too early. Given Square Enix's penchant for protracted development times, this one could take quite some time.

Kingdom Hearts 3 marks the end of a 'trilogy,' but not the series

Kingdom Hearts 3 represents the end of a trilogy. Well, it's technically not a trilogy because as series creator Testuya Nomura admits, "there have been so many spinoffs."

Game director Tetsuya Nomura certainly seems to hope so.

Kingdom Hearts 3 director warns: 'we may have announced it a little too early'

Square Enix director Tetsuya Nomura is notorious for announcing his games too early. Let's not forget that Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced in 2006 before PS3 even came out, and has yet to be released. In fact, it's going to be a PS4 game as Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix announced this week.

The publisher also announced another sequel this week: Kingdom Hearts 3. However, Nomura warns fans that "looking at the current development status, I think we may have announced it a little too early." Time to wait for PlayStation 5, perhaps?
