Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche recently announced a studio in the New York, to serve as the American arm of the Swedish developer. But why New York, when so much of the game industry is located on the west coast?
"At Avalanche we've always wanted to have a presence in the US, and not only do I personally not like the West Coast very much, but it's just too overcrowded, it's expensive, and it's hard to travel there," company founder Christopher Sundberg told Edge. "We wanted to set up a studio where we could really bring the Swedish company culture to the US, and also enjoy the great talent pool that's available there." Read more »

Avalance Studios, the Swedish developer behind explodalicious unexpected hit Just Cause 2, is planning to once again deliver a delicious dose of destruction. Publisher Sega today announced Renegade Ops, a downloadable vehicular shooter headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The lowliest vehicle in Square Enix's Just Cause 2, the Tuk Tuk, has just received a free downloadable update. Additionally, several pieces of previously retailer-specific pre-order DLC have also been priced and released for general consumption, with the exception of the Chaos Parachute.
The tiny crate on wheels, known as the Tuk Tuk, now comes in two flavors: vanilla and heavily armed. The new version, called the 'Tuk Tuk Boom Boom' sacrifices practical trunk space for an even more practical cannon. Read more »

In line with Microsoft's reveal, Square Enix has confirmed that Just Cause 2 will be getting new DLC on April 29th in the form of the "Black Market Aerial Pack".
Additionally, Square Enix has revealed a second DLC pack for May 25th called the "Black Market Boom Pack". Both packs will be available on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Both packs will be available on their respective dates for $1.99 (PS3/PC) or 160 MS Points (Xbox 360). Read more »

A second batch of downloadable add-ons for both 2K Marin's shooter BioShock 2 and Avalanche's explosive Just Cause 2 will arrive on April 29, Microsoft has revealed.
BioShock 2's add-on, dubbed "Rapture Metro Map Pack" and priced at 800 Microsoft Points / $10, adds six new multiplayer maps along with a new multiplayer rank of fifty, two additional masks, three more achievements and a "Kill 'Em Kindly melee mode." Read more »

Everybody loves statistics! In the spirit of quantifying video game chaos, Avalanche Studios and Eidos have put up a "Gamestats" section on the Just Cause 2 website.
Want to see who's made the most kills (total of 91 million), the most sabotages (over 29 million), the highest base jump (collectively over 47,000 kilometres, that's more than the distance around the world)? Go one step further by registering and linking your Gamertag, PSN or Steam ID to your account, and you'll be able to track all your stats from the game online and see how you compare to other players on the Just Cause 2 Community Leaderboards.

Avalanche Studios has revealed a new way to "rocket launcher jump" that gets Just Cause 2 players just as high as their Quake counterparts but with the added bonus of raining destruction upon hapless enemies and letting Rico sail away unscathed.
Just Cause 2 is due to arrive for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 23. A demo is out now on all three platforms, offering 35 square miles of the full game's 200. Read more »
