At Sony's GDC 2011 PlayStation lounge, Sucker Punch development director Chris Zimmerman revealed that inFamous 2 includes a full-featured set of tools for players to create their own missions in the game. After talking briefly about their plans to improve the game, he said that the biggest problem from the first game was that it ended. This is their solution.
Though technically not tagged with the "play, create, share" label, the influence and experience clearly show in the tools and incorporation of the user created levels into the game. I'm watching a level being created right now and the design tool allows the creation of just about anything an aspiring designer could want. It's all done in game, with a set of iconic tools for placing things like items, spawn points, triggers and so on. All manner of parameters can also be tweaked such as idle behavior, default response to Cole, and finer details such as response ranges. Read more »

inFamous 2 will release on June 7 in North America, Sony revealed today on the PlayStation Blog. Release information for other regions wasn't given.
The blog also confirmed rumors of the "Hero Edition." The bonuses leaked by Amazon were spot-on, and as predicted the super voucher extras are being split among retailers as pre-order goodies. Amazon gets the 24K Gold Amp, Best Buy gets the Kessler Skin, GameStop gets the Lightning Hook, Wal-Mart gets the Electrocution Grenade, and "participating retailers" get the digital soundtrack. It stands to reason that a franchise sequel like inFamous 2 would get the Collector's Edition treatment, but a retailer may have spilled the beans early. An Amazon listing (via Examiner) has since been pulled, but not before the "Hero Edition" details got out.

2011 is shaping up to be a great year for video games. Here at Shacknews we've pored over the treasure trove of titles coming this year and each picked out a select few games to highlight. Today, it's Steve's turn to share the games he's especially anticipating.
Dragon Age 2: Some fans are approaching this sequel with trepidation. The first game's varied prologues and rich customization features have been replaced by a more focused origin story and lead character. Baldur's Gate-style command combat is getting a more fast-paced approach. The game seems to be drifting more towards action than strategic combat. Read more »

In a lengthy mini-documentary developed by 2 Player Productions, the team at Sucker Punch halted production on Infamous 2 for nearly eight minutes to discuss the inspiration behind its newest franchise. Throughout the video, the devs at Sucker Punch mention the world of comics and film--like the more realistic direction of Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise--as key influences for the urban setting and main character in Infamous.

QUICK TAKE: The team at Sucker Punch created an enjoyable game with the first inFAMOUS. Players played the origin story of Cole MacGrath, a bike messenger that gains and grows electricity-based superpowers after a massive explosion in Empire City. Now, with inFAMOUS 2, Sucker Punch is back in the lab and gave the press a behind-closed doors look at the 2011 game still in development. First, Cole has been redesigned and re-cast. Second, he begins the games with a large set of powers already developed.

The expected sequel to Sucker Punch's electrifying PlayStation 3-exclusive inFamous has now been confirmed, as print publication Game Informer is featuring inFamous 2 on the cover of its July 2010 issue.
"A new look for hero Cole MacGrath is just the first step; a new city, new powers, and a powerful new foe" are among the changes featured in the sequel, with Game Informer promising that "you can read all about it our exclusive 10-page story." Read more »
