Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360

Yesterday, I presented some basic tips to get you started with Halo: Reach's multiplayer. Now, it's time to continue with a look at strategies for free-for-all and team games along with power weapon usage and some common mistakes new players make.

Also, remember: you're going to die a lot. Don't let it get you down. The matchmaking system should eventually (and hopefully) start matching you with similarly skilled players. The large population of players online at launch will help make this happen as well. Save your game films and watch them. Watch the winner's perspective and see examine what he or she does. A Beginner's Guide to Halo: Reach Multiplayer - Part One

Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360

With Halo: Reach coming up next week, I thought I would write up some mutliplayer tips to help out new or unskilled players. A large part of being good at Halo's multiplayer is going to come down to physical skill--your accuracy and speed with the controller--but there are a lot of little tips to help improve your game.

In this first part, we'll go over the controls, the motion sensor, and weapons. The second part will go into depth about strategies for free-for-all and team-based modes and common mistakes. After I get some extended time in with the full multiplayer game, I'll probably end up writing something up on Reach's armor abilities and maps. For the most part, however, these tips will work for Halo 3 if you want to start practicing today. Read more »

Halo: Reach - A Trip to Forge World

Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360, Preview

Bungie introduced Forge in Halo 3, a rudimentary map editing feature that allowed some talented gamers to create new "maps" using Halo 3's existing levels as the canvas. In the final DLC pack for Halo 3, Bungie released "Sandbox", a 3-level map perfect for creating map variants. The tools to do so, however, were not updated. They have been in Halo: Reach.

Halo: Reach "Nightfall" Mission Preview

Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360, Preview

I've played through all of Halo: Reach, but I'm only allowed to talk about two of the game's campaign missions at this time. The first, Nightfall, begins as a "stealth" mission with you and Jun, another member of Noble Team, attempting to gauge the strength of the invading Covenant strike team.

Nightfall opens as you, Noble 6, and Jun traverse a steep cliffside near a coastline to get into position above the Covenant forces. Once there, Jun takes a higher road to offer sniper support, while you hit the ground to deal with the enemy. It begins as a sneaking mission—the game uses this opportunity to introduce its new assassination mechanic—but it's not "mission failed" if you're seen. Besides, Spartans don't use silenced weapons like those pansies in the ODST program. Read more »

Halo: Reach Adds 'Campaign Matchmaking' Feature

Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360

Bungie has revealed that Halo: Reach will support matchmaking in yet another mode.

According to Bungie, one of the biggest requests made after the release of Halo 3: ODST was matchmaking in the game's popular survival-based Firefight mode. Although the developer was unable to add it to the Halo spin-off, the feature is included in its upcoming (and last) Halo game, Halo: Reach. Read more »

Halo: Reach Campaign Preview

It seems that most of the conversations I've heard throughout the industry in regards to Halo: Reach essentially boils down to a single phrase: "It's a Halo game."

If we're going to focus solely on the controls and the universe the game takes place in then I suppose "It's a Halo game" works as summary of what Reach is. But, it seems, the phrase only exists in place of actually saying, "It's the same thing as always and hordes of people will probably buy it." Read more »

Canadian 'Xbox News' Dashboard App Fuels Alternate Reality Game for Halo: Reach

Related Topics – Halo: Reach, xbox 360

Over the last few days, Canadian Xbox 360 owners have been "treated" to a laughably bad series of nightly newscasts, dubbed "Xbox News," available for streaming on the console's dashboard. Although initial speculation was the application was a legitimate addition to feed real-world news to Xbox 360 owners, a source tells Shacknews the videos are part of an obvious Alternate Reality Game for Halo: Reach. Halo: Reach Trailer Introduces Noble Team

The members of Halo: Reach's starring squad Noble Team are introduced in a new trailer for Bungie's shooter prequel. Some are reckless but brilliant, others are brilliant but reckless, a few seem dull and you'll play, naturally, an ultra-deadly black ops type.

The Xbox 360 exclusive is due out on September 15. For those who want goodies with their game, it'll also be offered in an $80 Limited Edition and $150 Legendary Edition. Read more »
