Microsoft continues to expand the Halo universe. They just recently announced a Halo TV project with Steven Spielberg for Xbox One, and are planning the next two installments in 343 Industries' Reclaimer Trilogy (i.e Halo 5 and 6). But now we find out about another project called Bootcamp that is unrelated to any of that.

Xbox Live Games on Demand typically ends up making you pay more than retail price--even during sales--for games which don't need to be pressed, packaged, shipped, or stored, which makes it essentially a costly way of saving shelf space. Microsoft's knocking up to 85% off off loads of games in a string of daily deals it's calling 'The Xbox LIVE Ultimate Game Sale,' starting with the Halo series, and for once it actually makes digital Xbox 360 games (mostly) cheaper than physical.

Whatever happened to the Halo movie? Aliens, guns, explosions, and a massive audience already devoted to the franchise--it seemed like a massive blockbuster in the making. Names like Peter Jackson were attached--but then the movie disappeared.
So what happened? Microsoft demanded too much, a new report claims. The terms Microsoft was seeking would have been "the richest, most lucrative rights deal in history" and that "no property, not even Harry Potter" was able to get anything similar. Did Microsoft bite off more than it could chew?

Last summer, Bungie began the monumental task of transferring all its data management on the Halo series over to new developer 343 Industries. Microsoft and 343 promised more Halo 10th anniversary festivities at this year's PAX Prime, and now we're seeing just what they meant. The official site announced today that the Seattle gaming event will host its own Halo event inside it, like a Russian nesting doll. Called "Halo Fest," it will be at the Annex 3rd Floor of the Washington Convention Center during PAX Prime, running alongside the days and times of the regular PAX event.
The announcement promises "tournaments, exclusive panels, and sweet prizes" for Halo fans. It's in honor of the 10th anniversary event this year, which has already included an update to Waypoint, a new motion comic, and new Halo Avatar duds. We've also heard rumblings of a Halo: Combat Evolved remake serving as 343's debut project. Read more »

Microsoft and 343 Industries are preparing for the 10th anniversary of Halo, and the first of undoubtedly many celebratory salvos will be coming through the Halo Waypoint hub. This Friday, Halo Waypoint will be updated with performance tweaks, a new "Compare with Friends" feature, Instant On streaming video, and two new career levels. It will also reflect your stats for Halo: Reach and allow you to launch the game from WayPoint.
In addition, on Saturday, April 23, WayPoint users will be able to watch a new motion comic called "The Mona Lisa." The comic shows the crew of the UNSC Red Horse discovering a derelict prison ship called the Mona Lisa. Prisoners are nothing if not known for their appreciation of classic art. The crew goes to investigate and, unsurprisingly, ends up battling the Covenant. This is why most people know better than to check out creepy abandoned prisons. Read more »

Halo 3 is now available digitally for your Xbox 360 in all regions. It'll run you $30 in the US. There might be, however, a small issue with load times.
When the Xbox 360 received the "New Xbox Experience" Dashboard update allowing gamers to install their titles to the hard drive to improve load times, it actually made Halo 3 perform worse than when running off of the disk. Read more »

It sounds like Peter Jackson's Halo game has joined his attempt at a Halo-branded feature film in the "no longer happening" graveyard.
When asked about the effort, announced in September 2006, the Hollywood director responsible for Lord of the Rings and Dead Alive told Joystiq that the "Halo project is no longer happening, it sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening." Read more »

As it's been about two and a half weeks since we learned that the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack was due today, it's probably a good time to remind you that the DLC is now out.
The 800 Microsoft Point ($10) add-on brings three new multiplayer maps into Bungie's Xbox 360-only shooter. Orbital and Assembly are more traditional offerings, while Sandbox is a large open arena just ripe for customization via the Forge map editor.
