Gran Turismo 5 E3 2010 Preview

QUICKTAKE: It's finally dated for November of this year and faces nearly insurmountable expectations built up over the years spent in development but boy does it look good.

Years of waiting will come to a close when Gran Turismo 5 hits PlayStation 3 on November 2. Before offering a guided tour of the E3 demo, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi readily admitted they'd taken an extreme approach to the fidelity of the game. While showing off images comparing minute details in production cars to their in-game models he went as far as to say, "we've gone too far in modeling some of this detail...[it's] more suited for the next generation of the PlayStation." Gran Turismo 5 Goes NASCAR in New Trailer

Related Topics – Gran Turismo 5, Trailer, PlayStation 3

Announced last year, Sony and developer Polyphony Digital snagged the NASCAR license for Gran Turismo 5. It's kind of a big deal for the PlayStation 3 exclusive simulation racer, as Microsoft and Turn 10's competing Xbox 360-exclusive Forza Motorsport 3 included stock vehicles, but hit the track bare of any official licensing.

So then, how about a new Gran Turismo 5 trailer showing off NASCAR in-engine? Read more »

Gran Turismo 5 'Time Trial Challenge' Demo Coming December 17, Includes Nationwide Contests

Over on the official PlayStation Blog Sony has announced a 'Gran Turismo Time Trial Challenge' demo that will be available for free via the PlayStation Network on December 17th. In it players climb behind the wheel of two different versions of the new Nissan 370Z - one in stock configuration, and the other tuned for racing - and compete for the best times on a single track.

As if getting another playable peek at Gran Turismo 5 isn't enough, residents in the U.S. and Canada get a little extra incentive to perfect their driving skills by competing in nationwide racing contests (one for each country). The speed-demons who achieve the fastest combined race times for both vehicles before the contest ends at 5PM (PST) on January 25, 2010, will receive two tickets to the Indy 500 on May 30, 2010, round trip airfare there, and hotel accommodations.
