Golden Axe: Beast Rider, a prequel to 1989's Golden Axe, will ship October 17 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Sega has revealed.
Very little has been said about the Secret Level-developed hack 'n slash action title, which probably does not bode well for the game. Even the official site has only a trailer.

Sega just dropped a new trailer of Golden Axe: Beast Rider (PS3, 360), showcasing the game's sun-bleached battlefields and feral mounts.
Based on the classic Sega arcade series, the battle-hardened action title is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this summer.

In my younger years, I had a thing against gnomes, and I blame it on Sega's arcade classic Golden Axe. After wasting a fair portion of my youth on the title, I realized that the very sight of gnomes in any game made me want to kick the little bastards repeatedly, in the hope that I would be rewarded with restorative medicines and magic urns.
That being said, I'm pleased to report that the loot-lugging munchkins have returned in Secret Level's overhaul of the classic arcade fighter Golden Axe: Beast Rider, inspiring the same violent urges I had felt so many years ago. But as we saw in publisher Sega's demonstration of an in-progress build of the game earlier this week, the new Golden Axe isn't just about wanton acts of aggression—well, not just against gnomes, at least. Publisher Gamecock today announced that Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, the self-described action title for Xbox Live Arcade, has been delayed to a release period of "later this Spring."
As penance, Blazing Lizard has added a new traditional dodgeball mode to the game, allowing for multiple balls and all sorts of nostalgic, kindergarten-type fun. Lead developer Chris Stockman also took some time to talk about the game in a short video. Read more »

Pirates Vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, the first title out of the newly-formed Blazing Lizard, has been confirmed for an Xbox Live Arcade release in early 2008.
Published by Gamecock, the game was announced back in August, though no system was named at the time. It is said to be the first of several Pirates vs. Ninjas titles, and marks the rising popularity of dodgeball video games.
"It is no secret that Pirates and Ninjas have beef," said studio director Chris Stockman. "But it turns out both have a great love for dodgeball and unique skills when it comes to playing the game."

The freshly formed development studio Blazing Lizard announced its first project today: the downloadable console title Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball. The game will appear on unannounced console download services in the first quarter of 2008. The game pits players as pirates, ninjas, or other played out personas in eight-player online, 4-player online co-op, or 4-player offline modes. The title will make use of Infyrno, Blazing Lizard's proprietary engine, and apparently be the first of several Pirates vs. Ninjas titles. The company released several screenshots from the title and some concept art along with the announcement. Blazing Lizard was founded by former Volition employees, known most recently for their work on Saints Row (X360).
