Given constant delays and onerous always-on DRM requirements, PC gamers have long held Ubisoft in contempt. However, Ubisoft's director for online games Stephanie Perotti claims that the publisher has had a year-long policy committed to ending its controversial always-on DRM. The reason? Consumer feedback. Instead, the publisher is now committed to a one-time online activation.

Google Chrome didn't launch explicitly as a games platform, but it's made a few strides in that direction. It started with some Facebook parity and ubiquitous games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled, but that quickly gave way to more core support with the launch of Bastion last year. Porting games that were part of Xbox 360 promotions is proving popular, as Ubisoft announced From Dust will be making the trek in April.

Ubisoft recently announced From Dust would come to the PlayStation Network on September 27. Now the company is changing the release date, but instead of pushing it back as we so often see when release dates are shuffled, this one is coming a full two weeks sooner than anticipated.
Ubisoft has announced that the game will come to PlayStation Network tomorrow, September 13.

From Dust will be available for PS3 on September 27 for $14.99, arriving little over a month after the Xbox Live Arcade and PC releases. However, in spite of its tardiness, it doesn't appear the PlayStation Network release will include any extra features for PS3 owners.
Well, at the very least, it won't succumb to the okay-maybe-it-needs-to-be-online-to-launch DRM that the PC version curiously mandated.

Ubisoft has decided to completely remove all traces of online authentication in the PC version of its downloadable title From Dust.
The issues for From Dust began when a now deleted forum post on the publisher's official site noted that online authentication was only required one time, and players would be free to play the game offline at any time in the future. In reality, the game actually requires online authentication every time the game is loaded.

From Dust was a bona fide hit on Xbox Live Arcade, making it Ubisoft's fastest-selling XBLA game, but some decided to wait out the PC version. After all, mouse controls could only benefit the God game, so clearly some patience would yield you the superior version, right?
Unfortunately, this version is leaving much to be desired, and frustrating PC fans with a combination of DRM and limitations to the graphical options.

Ubisoft has a hit on its hands. The publisher has announced that From Dust has "broken record digital sales for Ubisoft," by having the highest first-day sales of any Xbox Live Arcade game that Ubisoft has ever released.
There are multiple reasons for the game's tremendous success. It could be the fact that this is the first Ubisoft game to participate in Microsoft's annual Summer of Arcade promotion. It's also, for the time being, exclusive to the Xbox 360, meaning sales can't be spread over multiple platforms. Finally, it's also pretty good.

Try as we might, we cannot get away from pre-order bonuses. Sometimes they include additional content for the very game you're ordering and sometimes, it adds a little something special to a completely different title.
Today, Steam revealed that pre-ordering Ubisoft's From Dust from its digital service will add an additional trinket to your growing Team Fortress 2 closet.

You will literally play God in From Dust, Eric Chahi's upcoming downloadable game. So, as an all-encompassing omnipotent being, something as trivial as "time" shouldn't bother you. Good, because Ubisoft has announced a last-minute delay for the PC version of the game. Originally scheduled for release two days from now (July 27th), Ubisoft has delayed the game, without any real explanation.

From Dust will be available for PC on July 27 for $14.99, Ubisoft announced today. Usually Summer of Arcade releases enjoy a period of Xbox Live Arcade exclusivity before hitting other platforms, but From Dust is apparently exempt. It's unclear what this means for the planned PlayStation Network release.
As part of the announcement, Ubisoft released its third developer diary, showing off a lengthy stretch of gameplay. You'll take on the role of a god, helping a primitive tribe brave the elements in pursuit of knowledge, with dynamic factors changing up the game each time. It took home the Best Strategy Game award from the Game Critics Awards at this year's E3, so it's definitely one to watch. Check out the new dev diary below. Read more »

Microsoft's Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) has announced the dates and prices for this year's Summer of Arcade promotion on Xbox Live Arcade. The prices mostly come in at the standard $15 (1200 MSP); the one exception is Fruit Ninja Kinect, which goes for just $10 (800 MSP). Read more »
