PlayStation Store Update Adds Angry Birds, MicroBot, Tetris and More

It's a good week for addictive puzzlers in the PlayStation Store, as yesterday's weekly refresh of the digital shop added shiny new versions of block-based classic Tetris and immensely popular fling 'em up Angry Birds for Sony's game-o-trons.

The update also saw the launch of Fantastic Voyage-ish shooter MicroBot, a handful of demos and the regulation helping of downloadable content. Swing 'em up Bionic Commando Rearmed is being offered for $4.99, on sale down from $13.99. Read more »

PlayStation Store Update Adds Costume Quest

This week's refresh of Sony's PlayStation Store has arrived, bringing with it Psychonauts developer Double Fine's Halloween RPG Costume Quest along with a demo for the anime adaptation Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage plus the usual assortment of other demos, downloadable content, trailers, themes and discounts.

Electronic Arts Bringing Tetris, Monopoly, Sims, and NFS for Windows Phone 7 Launch

Electronic Arts has announced its launch line-up for the Windows Phone 7 platform, which will initially include four games and support for Xbox Live. That includes achievements, i.e. the real reason to play games on Windows Phone 7. WP7 devices will be available on November 8 in the US (October 21 in Europe and Asia).

A large list of launch games was also released by Microsoft at Gamescom 2010. EA's four titles are Need for Speed Undercover, Tetris, The Sims 3, and Monopoly. More details about all four titles can be found below from Microsoft's press release. Read more »

The barrel-chested pugilist Kenshiro from Tecmo KOEI's upcoming manga-based brawler 'Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage,' can make your dreams come true, provided that your dreams involve punching tons of dudes in the grill.

Previously released in Japan under the name 'Hokuto Musou," the Dynasty Warriors spin-off will have players practicing extremely violent crowd-control methods on big groups of enemies. Read more »

New Tetris Games Coming to Wii, Nintendo DS

Classic block-fitting, line-zapping puzzler Tetris will return to the Wii and Nintendo DS with "the latest evolution" of the franchise and "new challeges" in spring 2010, publisher Majesco and property licensee Tetris Online announced today.

Exactly how this version of Tetris will differ from the editions already available was not explained. However, developer Tetris Online seems to know what it's doing--the company is responsible for the free-to-play Tetris Friends, which has consumed several close acquaintances, so here's hoping our new overlords are merciful.

Free iPhone Tetris Clone Pressured Off iTunes by Apple, Tetris Company

Independent developer Noah Witherspoon has revealed that his free Tetris-esque iPhone puzzler Tris will be removed from the iTunes App Store this Wednesday, following a strongly worded letter from Apple sent on behalf of The Tetris Company.

The Tetris Company, which owns and licenses the Tetris property, accused Witherspoon of violating its copyright. Witherspoon added that Apple was poised to "take action" if he did not resolve the "dispute" of his own accord. Read more »

Tetris Drops onto WiiWare

A downloadable version of the classic puzzle phenomenon Tetris will arrive on the Wii's upcoming WiiWare service this summer, developer Hudson has announced.

Featuring online play for up to six players, the game will include new rules and items, though no details were provided. In all, Hudson expects to sell over a million copies worldwide.
