Final Fantasy XIII-2 fits on one DVD

Final Fantasy XIII was three DVDs when it released on Xbox 360 last year. Its sequel will only be one. How is that possible?

Director Motomu Toriyama says that in spite of the game having the "same amount of volume" as the original, the upcoming sequel features less pre-rendered cutscenes, opting for more real-time cinematics.

Final Fantasy XIII-3 registered by Square Enix

Square Enix hasn't laid down a solid release date for Final Fantasy XIII-2, but the company is already hedging its bets with what appears to be a registration of a domain for Final Fantasy XIII-3. Square could just be protecting itself against domain squatters, just in case it decided to pursue a third game, but we saw similar rumors pop up in January with the FFXIII-2 registration.

Final Fantasy XIII-2's time travel explained

Final Fantasy XIII-2's time travel explained

Final Fantasy XIII-2 may just remind you of Chrono Trigger, the game's director says. Why? Because it's all about time travel.

"We are aiming to make time travel a major thematic direction, and be able to express this on high-end game machines," Motomu Toriyama said in a PR-provided Q&A. "We really have received a lot of feedback about the game, but among the voices, there are those who say it reminds them of the classic RPG, Chrono Trigger."

Final Fantasy XIII-2 aims to 'rectify' every FFXIII complaint

It has seemed obvious from the features being added to Final Fantasy XIII-2 that Square is acutely aware of the complaints against its predecessor, but now the company is just stating it outright. In an interview with Gamasutra, game director Motomu Toriyama treated the subject pretty bluntly. "Our ultimate goal is rectifying every single point in Final Fantasy XIII that has been criticized by users," he said.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Registration Fuels Sequel Rumors

Final Fantasy XIII may be seeing an official sequel, if a new domain is any indication. Siliconera reports that the domain name "Finalfantasy13-2game.com" has been registered, fueling rumors that we'll see the continued story of Lightning and her friends.

The domain registration itself would be unremarkable if not for the associated name: Corporation Service Company. It's been used for the registration of other domains for Square, like the original Final Fantasy XIII which is registered under the similar domain, "Finalfantasy13game.com." Read more »
