You could be like the protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and travel through time to a future where Square Enix's next console RPG is already released. Or, you could just wait a week for the free downloadable demo to release.
The Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo will be available on PlayStation Network on January 10th, and on Xbox Live Marketplace on January 11th. No word on what the demo will include, but you should expect spiky hair, giant swords, and a dramatic cutscene or two.

Final Fantasy XIII-2
I don't think I'm in the minority when I say that I had my share of problems with Final Fantasy XIII. The overlong tutorial, the few and far between likable characters, the completely nonsensical plot -- by any measure it should've been a game I hated. But the combat system was so fast and frenetic that it kept bringing me back. The game didn't get much right, but it made battles fun and engaging for a more modern RPG audience.

Microsoft has managed to win more exclusive third-party DLC. But, this one doesn't seem like quite the victory. Square Enix has announced that the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 will offer exclusive DLC: "Azrael," a bow weapon for Serah to use in the game.
"Azrael is named after an angel who represents spirits and death. It is believed to possess the power to change the owner’s destiny, and the player’s Chain Bonus will upgrade when equipped," the announcement details.

If you, like me, are still a little fuzzy on what exactly Final Fantasy XIII-2 is, you may find your answers in a new four-minute trailer explaining what's new and exciting in Fantasyland since Final Fantasy XIII.
The trailer covers improvements to the battle system, time travel, quick-time events, and all sorts of things likely to be of interest to Fantasyfans. Of course, if you, like me, are behind on your Final Fantasy, it may all be one confusing jumble of terms like Paradigms, Crystogen, and Crystarium.

The characters of Assassin's Creed are able to do more than leap across buildings and jump through time. They can travel from series to series, as well. Square Enix has announced that it will be offering an Ezio Auditore costume for Noel, Final Fantasy XIII-2's male protagonist.
No price or release info has been announced yet, but this is just the latest collaboration that Ubisoft has been working on.

We know that Final Fantasy XIII-2 focuses on Serah searching for her missing sister, Lightning. So what exactly is Lightning up to, anyway? Apparently, she's waging an all-out war using her private monster army, and we get to see a battle unfold to that effect.

In spite of the franchise having reached the Roman numeral XIV, Square Enix's Yoshinori Kitase thinks there isn't enough Final Fantasy in the world. Kitase says that the company is trying to adopt the quicker development cycle of its western peers, aiming to release games as quickly as a Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed game.
"The current generation console, Final Fantasy XIII, was obviously the first game, and personally I think we took a little too long getting it out," Kitase said. "When you think of Western triple A titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Assassin's Creed, they seem to work with a lot shorter turnaround--they make a new game in 1-2 years."

Final Fantasy XIII-2 seems like it's making good on some complaints from the first game, but so far the trailers haven't done much to explain what's driving the sequel's plot. Something about Lightning disappearing, and time-travel, and a kid who looks like Justin Beiber as dressed by Tetsuya Nomura.
That's why this latest trailer, released alongside New York Comic-Con gives us some hope. It's a full seven minutes long, and a large portion of that time is plot and dialogue.
