Brutal Legend Officially Announced; Updated: Early Screenshots, Concept Artwork

Update: The first screenshots and concept artwork for Brutal Legend have been released. Double Fine's official site also released a suitably metal photograph (inset) of designer Tim Schafer (pictured right) and Motorhead bassist Lemmy, whose voice is featured in the game. "The moral of the story is that Brutal Legend is going to be the best f***ing game you have ever played," creator Tim Schafer wrote on the site's news page. "Please be patient, though. It's going to take us a little while to gather up every single piece of awesome there is in the world and put it in this game." Original Story: Though the gaming populace has already heard the word and seen the trailer, publisher Sierra and developer Double Fine have officially unveiled Brutal Legend (PS3, X360). According to the press release, the latest from Full Throttle (PC) and Psychonauts (PC, PS2, Xbox) creator Tim Schafer follows "the most righteous and epic fable of massive music, apocalyptic war, and Brutal action... ever." Eddie Riggs, who is based on and voiced by comedy rocker Jack Black, headlines the game's cast, using his mighty axe to slice demons in two and commandeering rocking hot rods from time to time. "Holy crap!" said Schafer, "I have been dreaming about this day for fifteen years. And now it is finally here. We've gathered small clues over the years about the Age of Metal, in songs, t-shirts, and album covers. But now we have uncovered the metal mother lode, the full legend of what actually happened in that loud and heavy era, and we are the lucky ones who get to tell the tale." Brutal Legend is slated for a 2008 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. No PC version has been announced at this time, a curious exclusion given Schafer's predilection towards the platform that has hosted all of his past games.
