Zynga Issues Cease & Desist to Protect "Ville" Trademark

Popular Facebook game developer Zynga has issued a cease and desist order against Blingville, for its game of the same name. GamesIndustry.biz reports that Zynga claims the "ville" suffix infringes on its trademark.

Legal action began in November 2010, but Blingville looks ready to fight it in court, if necessary. The company has filed for a declaratory judgment that the title qualifies as fair use. The company is also requesting that Zynga be made to pay for attorney's fees and other expenses regarding the case. Read more »

CityVille Growing at Breakneck Speed

FarmVille is the poster child of social gaming, but its little brother has already surpassed its success in record time. VentureBeat reports that the spin-off title CityVille has reached 100 million users in only 43 days.

FarmVille, by comparison, reached an all-time high of 83.76 million users in March of last year. However, FarmVille's 34.5 million daily active users beats CityVille's 18.5 million. Together, the two games help push Zygna's combined tally to almost 300 million monthly active users. Facebook currently stands at over 600 million users, which means roughly one in six have at least tried CityVille, and half are trying at least one Zynga game. Read more »

King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame Sequel Announced

Neocore Games today announced a sequel to its 2009 PC RTS-RPG hybrid King Arthur - The Role-playing Wargame, imaginatively titled King Arthur II.

"More heroic, large scale battles with bigger armies" and "intense boss fights" are promised as Artie struggles to save a ruined Britannia. There'll also be "a new wide range of camera control options, revised animations and an extensive tutorial." Read more »

FarmVille Creator Zynga Worth More than Electronic Arts According to Valuation

According to SharesPost Inc., which handles trades for shares of privately held companies, FarmVille creator Zynga has been valued at an estimated $5.51 billion. This tops Electronic Arts' $5.22 billion valuation as calculated by its NASDAQ stock price (via Bloomberg).

Keep in mind that Zynga is not a publicly traded company and this valuation is based upon what people are spending for shares or stake in the company. This is similar to when Microsoft dropped $240 million into Facebook for a 1.6 percent stake in the social network, valuing Facebook at $15 billion. Read more »

Class Action Lawsuit Brought Against Zynga Over FarmVille Privacy Concerns

A group of Facebook users have filed a class action lawsuit against Zynga over its "alleged practice of illegally sharing the Facebook user data of its customers with advertisers and data brokers."

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco, CA and "seeks monetary relief for those whose data was wrongly shared, and injunctive relief to prevent continued privacy abuses." Read more »

Google could be investing between $100 and $200 million in Farmville creator Zynga, according to a report by TechCrunch.

Interactive Achievement Award Winners Announced; Uncharted 2 Snags Ten
