Having released Order of War (PC) alongside publisher Square Enix back in September 2009, developer Wargaming.net has announced a multiplayer expansion dubbed "Challenge" that will be provided as a free download to Order of War owners.
The standalone download will be distributed exclusively through Steam, adding 12 new maps, 6 new multiplayer modes 6 four co-op missions to the strategy series. Read more »

Providing a gentle reminder that DJ Hero won't be the only turntable game on the market for long, publisher Genius Products has issued a new trailer that details Scratch: The Ultimate DJ's "scratch deck" controller and compares it to real DJ equipment.
Now in the hands of Commotion, Scratch is due on PS3 and Xbox 360 in early 2010.

Having previously noted its plans for "deep and interactive downloadable content to be released on a regular basis post launch," Playlogic has revealed details on the first add-ons coming to its just-released PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 action game.
"4 Brand New Playable Characters" and "3 Brand New PvP Arenas" will be provided as an "exclusive" free download to those that register their copy of the game at the official site. The offer is open for the first 90 days the game is out, so you have 89 days left. Read more »

Publisher Square Enix, best known for the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series, has dated its first World War II real-time strategy game for September 22 in North America.
Developed externally by Massive Assault veteran Wargaming.net, Order of War (PC) packs two single-player campaigns set in 1944, pitting American forces against their German counterparts in France and facing German forces against Soviets in Poland. Think you're a bad enough dude to go into combat wearing just a crown and a leaf? You'll be able to find out in a few months, as developer Playlogic has dated the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of its dismemberment-filled Unreal Engine 3-powered take on fairytale rivalry for an October 27 release in North America and October 23 in Europe.
As Playlogic explains, Fairytale Fights sees a squad of characters "whose glory days have long since passed"--Jack, Naked Emperor, Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White--"set about on their quest to regain their lost fame and fortune from the fairytale kingdom." Read more »

Following the brouhaha of DJ Hero maker Activision buying Scratch: The Ultimate DJ developer 7 Studios and Scratch publisher Genius Products then accusing the duo of sabotage, Genius has now hired Commotion Interactive to finish the music title.
The studio was described as "the music and party game division of Bedlam Games," an independent Canadian developer formed in 2006 by Rockstar, EA and Ubisoft veterans. Bedlam's involvement with DJ Hero seemingly constitutes its first announced project. Read more »

Genius Products, Inc. has today unveiled the fully-featured turntable controller for its hip-hop rhythm game Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.
The controller is designed by turntable manufacturer Numark, and boasts a rotating touch-sensitive turntable with vinyl-y surface, crossfader and 5 Akai Pro MPC-style drum pads. Southpaws need not fear as the controller can be played both lefty and righty. Read more »

As the legal battle between DJ Hero developer Activision and Scratch: The Ultimate DJ publisher Genius Products continues to unfold, "sources with knowledge of the game's development" have told Kotaku that Scratch is now in the hands of a new studio.
Scratch was originally being developed by 7 Studios, but following Activision's purchase of the developer, Genius Products terminated the agreement. Activision and 7 Studios were then ordered to turn over the source code for the game and its development tools. Read more »

While the L.A. Superior Court refused to grant "any restraining order" against Activision last week, that apparently changed today, as Genius Products and Numark today announced that they now have a temporary restraining order against Activision.
Publisher Genius Products and hardware maker Numark allege that Activision tried to sabotage the development of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ by buying its developer, 7 Studios, to benefit Activision's upcoming DJ Hero. Square Enix continues its foray into publishing Western games with the announcement that it will publish Order of War, a new World War 2 real-time strategy game for PC.
Players will take command of up to 1,000 troops, tanks, artillery and aircraft in vast battles based upon key historic events and operations from 1944 on both fronts--as Americans versus Germans on the West, and Germans against Russians on the East. Read more »

Activision has denied Genius Products and Numark's recent allegations that it bought 7 Studios, which is developing Scratch: The Ultimate DJ for Genius Products, in order to sabotage Scratch and benefit the upcoming Activision-developed DJ Hero.
According to Activision, the allegations are "nothing more than an attempt by Genius to place blame for the game's delay" and an attempt to hide Genuis' financial situation. Activision says it simply bought 7 Studios to "bolster its development capabilities." Read more »

The war over the lucrative music game genre escalated today, with the publisher of Scratch: The Ultimate DJ suing DJ Hero publisher Activision and Scratch developer 7 Studios over "intentional interference with contract, breach of contract, conversion and misappropriation of trade secrets."
Publisher Genius Products and peripheral manufacturer Numark Industries are claiming that Activision recently purchased Scratch: The Ultimate DJ developer 7 Studios in order to benefit its own upcoming DJ title, DJ Hero. Read more »
