Peter Molyneux on Streamlining Fable 3

Lionhead Studios' dream for Fable III is "to create a world that both core and casual gamers can play in," Microsoft's Peter Molyneux explained at Develop 2010, joking that "what this dream really means is that we want to sell loads more."

"Fable III must be more like an action-adventure than an RPG," Molyneux asserted, with combat that's "simple, because we have made people feel stupid for too long," yet, "very, very deep, because gamers want to feel great too." Read more »

"Soon after the retail launch we're doing episodic," Molyneux revealed. "We break it down in chapters. We give away the first chapter entirely free, the first hour. Fable 3 E3 2010 Preview

Related Topics – Fable 3, xbox 360, Preview, PC, E3 2010

Peter Molyneux doesn't feel that anybody remembers the story in Fable II. This time around, with Fable III, the designer wants a "memorable story". Players will take the role of the son or daughter of the protagonist from Fable II. The player's brother, Logan, has ascended to power and is king of Albion, but he rules with an iron first. The first half of the game is spent forming a revolution and overthrowing your brother, while the second half is what happens after you become king.

Fable 3 PC Release Suggested By Box Art

Related Topics – Fable 3, xbox 360, Rumor, PC

Lionhead Studios' 'Xbox 360 exclusive' RPG Fable 3 may well also be released on PC too, if a tag spotted on the box art by the keen eyes of Joystiq are any indication.

"Only on Xbox 360 & Windows," states the box art which has since been removed from the press resource site Microsoft released it through. Earlier placeholder box art said simply "Only on Xbox 360," indicating that either publisher Microsoft has accidentally revealed a PC edition too early or the newer box art was incorrect. Fable 3 Dev Diary Shows Off John Cleese

Related Topics – Fable 3, xbox 360, Trailer

"One of the things about Fable is the humour. People have said 'Ah it's a British humour; it's a bit like Monty Python,'" says segue-master Peter Molyneux in a new Fable III developer diary, barely containing his mirth, "so we went out there and we got the most iconic Monty Python character ever--John Cleese is one of the major players in Fable III."

While Cleese's role as the hero's butler Jasper was already known, the diary entry shows us the gent himself and brings new looks at interface development as well as the importance of politics and promises as players plot to overthrow the cruel monarchy. Read more »

Threatening to get people "super pissed off," Fable 3 removes the RPG mechanic of gaining experience to level up as part of a process which franchise head Louise Murray explains is "not getting rid of every element of an RPG but certainly making it something that people who aren't interested in that side of things will still enjoy."
