Zelda Makers Discuss Story, Art of Skyward Sword

At a roundtable discussion at E3 2010, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma spilled more details on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Regarding the game's story, Aonuma said through an interpreter:

Link is from a floating island in the clouds called Sky Loft. Link doesn't think his world is unusual -- it's just where he lives. Then he discovers another land beneath the clouds. The other world is dangerous and ruled by evil. Link is forced to go into that world due to circumstances. He has to travel back and forth between lands. The Skyward Sword is the key. The sword transforms, talks to him, gives him advice, etc. Skyward Sword becomes the Master Sword.

Zelda: Skyward Sword E3 2010 Preview

QUICK TAKE: Skyward Sword features a fun and fast way to switch between Link's vast arsenal using motion controls. Unfortunately, the full precision of the controls (or lack thereof) was not able to be shown on the E3 2010 show floor. Still, all the classic Zelda elements seem to be in place for another great adventure.

Next to the 3DS, the longest line at Nintendo's E3 2010 booth belonged to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I was lucky enough to cut the line and get my hands on the game for a few minutes. As with every other Zelda game, Link has a variety of weapons and gadgets to use in his epic fight against evil (as opposed to those mundane fights against chaotic neutral foes). Using the Wiimote, I pulled up a radial menu to switch between weapons. It only took a few tries to get used to the system and after a minute it was a snap switching between Link's various tools of smiting. Read more »

Morning Discussion

Related Topics – End of Nations

As the weekend slowly approaches, prepare yourself for adventure with the brilliant music video for Losers - "Flush". Victorian stylings, cephalopods and monarchs as colossal bio-mechanical tanks. Truly the best of British. I'm told there's also some sort of soundtrack attached but I wouldn't know about that. Gawd save the Queen!

Personally I'm not thinking about the weekend at all, only the week of mega monster media mayhem that will follow--E3. I'll be running on USA time and no doubt barely sleeping but I'm feeling confident about it all. This should be a good E3 for Shacknews.
