EA Sports' attempt to take a piece of THQ's UFC pie seems to have entered development limbo. Kotaku reports that in light of UFC's acquisition of the fight series Strikeforce, EA Sports head Andrew Wilson isn't being forthcoming about the possibility of a sequel, but isn't claiming they're tapping out either.

Last month, Tony Hawk: Shread developer Robomodo was hit with a wave of layoffs, reportedly letting go up to 60 employees. In the same fell swoop, it was revealed that Activision's eleven-year-old franchise would no longer be helmed by the slimmer team at Robomodo.
Today, Tony Hawk news isn't getting any less grim as investment firm Cowen and Company--speaking with GamesIndustry.biz--revealed that Tony Hawk: Shred sold 3,000 copies in the United States within its first week of availability. Read more »

A demo for EA Sports MMA will be released on September 28 on the PS3 and Xbox 360, taking players to the world of mixed-marial arts as imagined by Electronic Arts. We last saw the game at E3.
The demo will include four fighters across two weight classes--heavyweight and middleweight--in "Fight Now" mode for single bouts. Read more »

Quick Take: Mixed martial arts fans should be getting another solid choice with EA Sports MMA. The striking is already tight and will be familiar to fans of the excellent Fight Night series. As for the grappling...that takes some getting used to.
I played a dozen or so matches of EA Sports MMA at the company's E3 2010 booth. As huge fan of the Fight Night games, I immediately picked up the ring movement and striking. It's pretty much the "total control punching" system with a kick modifier. The left analog stick moves the fighter around the ring. The right analog stick is used for strikes. The default strike is a head punch. Buttons can be used for kicks and body blows. The striking felt fantastic -- very crisp and precise. Read more »

Mega-publisher Electronic Arts has issued a breakdown of the games it will display next week at E3 2010, offering new release dates and windows for a few titles in the process.
RISK: Factions, the downloadable Xbox 360-exclusive revamp of the classic board game, will arrive on June 23, 2010.
Meanwhile, EA SPORTS NBA JAM--a Wii exclusive--will hit in October alongside the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the recently renamed NBA ELITE 11. Read more »

A new entry in Electronic Arts' boxing series Fight Night is in the works, EA COO John Schappert affirmed today while discussing the company's new "Online Pass" initiative.
"Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NCAA Football, Madden NFL, NHL, Fight Night and [EA SPORTS] MMA will feature Online Pass," said Schappert during a conference call today. Read more »

This past weekend, a slew of mixed-martial-arts bouts took place at the "Strikeforce Nashville" event at the Bridgestone Arena. To celebrate the beatings and to promote its upcoming fighting game EA SPORTS MMA, Electronic Arts has released eight new screenshots of the game highlighting the no-holds-barred contests that took place.
The new screens feature all three of the main bouts from last Saturday's official fight card. The Light Heavyweight Championship bout between Gerard Mousasi and Muhammed Lawal (King Mo), saw Lawal emerge as the victor, and Gilbert Melendez triumphed over Shinya Aoki in the Lightweight Championship bout. In the title fight between Jake Shields and Dan Henderson, Shields was able to successfully defend the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship via a unanimous decision. Read more »
