In an effort to promote its EA SPORTS Active line of fitness titles, maker Electronic Arts today highlighted the results of a "scientific study" it claims "proves [the] efficacy of EA SPORTS Active digital fitness programs."
The study, commissioned by Electronic Arts and performed by the University of Wisconsin's Dr. John Porcari, tested sixteen "physically active adults between the ages of 25 and 45 to determine the relative exercise intensity and caloric expenditure of two pre-set EA SPORTS Active workouts: Afterburner and Legs & Lungs." Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 motion-tracking add-ons coming in late 2010 will launch alongside support from publisher Electronic Arts, the company has affirmed.
"With respect to the motion control games on [Project] Natal / Xbox and the Sony Motion Controller, we will be supporting both of those platforms at launch," explained EA COO John Schappert in a conference call. "We don't have any titles to announce right now on those, but we will be supporting those and we are hopeful on those." Read more »

In an effort to broaden the reach of the EA SPORTS brand, Electronic Arts has announced its entry into multi-year licensing agreements with a triumvirate of companies that manufacture consumer electronic accessories.
Sakar International Inc., Sunflex Europe, and ACCESSORIES 4 TECHNOLOGY Ltd. (A4T) will all be working collaboratively on a series of EA SPORTS-branded gaming peripherals for use with, "...multiple titles for gaming consoles, PCs and mobile platforms," including fitness title EA SPORTS Active. EA's leg strap-packing take on the Wii fitness craze, EA Sports Active, is due out May 19. As that's relatively soon, the company has released a trailer that not only demonstrates some of the game's activities, but provides a glimpse of what you'll look like doing them.
My advice? Stand as far away from your TV as you can. You don't want to put your foot through it. Same goes for any loved ones, toddlers, breakable objects, pets, and such. Read more »

Following hints of a fitness-oriented Wii game, Electronic Arts today announced that it is inviting players to "break a sweat" though a new line of fitness products, beginning with EA Sports Active for the Wii.
Priced at $69.99, Active will ship with two "specially-designed leg straps" that hold the Wii Nuncuk and track lower body movement, along with a resistance band for upper-body exercises. The title will not require, but will be compatible with, the Wii Balance Board accessory that comes packed with Nintendo's Wii Fit. Read more »
