Duke Nukem Forever expanded inventory update 'unlikely' for consoles

Yesterday, Shacknews reported that Duke Nukem Forever would soon be updated to increase Duke's weapon inventory slots from two to four in the single-player portion of the game; however, only the PC version of the game was named as a recipient of the increase.

Today, Gearbox Community Manager Chris Faylor pointed Shacknews to a new thread that outlines the possibility of the console versions of the game getting a similar update. Sorry console Duke fans, but it seems that a change to Duke's weapon slots is "unlikely."

June NPD: L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem and Infamous 2 top the list; Xbox sells over 500K units

June NPD: L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem and Infamous 2 top the list; Xbox sells over 500K units

Despite analyst firm Wedbush Morgan halving initial sales estimates for Duke Nukem Forever earlier this month, Take Two's returning hero made it to number two on the NPD Group's monthly "Top Ten" chart of best-selling, physical retail titles. The Team Bondi-developed cop action-drama L.A. Noire retained its number one spot for a second month.

Infamous 2 had a strong showing, coming in at third despite launching during E3 2011--a time where most hardcore gamer attention is focused everywhere but the release calendar. Also receiving plenty of attention was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D at number five on the top ten list, making it the first 3DS to appear on the chart.

Duke Nukem Forever sales lower Take-Two revenue estimates

Duke Nukem Forever sales lower Take-Two revenue estimates

Duke Nukem Forever may not be the sales success that publisher 2K Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive had expected. While its eventual release drew a lot of attention, it appears the fanfare hasn't translated into the numbers originally expected. According to Gamasutra, analyst firm Wedbush Morgan lowered its fiscal Q1 estimates for the company thanks to drastically lower sales than originally predicted. Initial estimates predicted sales of 3 million; the company now expects half that.

Offsetting the disappointing sales of Duke Nukem Forever is LA Noire, which is now expected to sell between 3.5 and 4 million copies. Ironically, in spite of Duke's less-than-warm reception, it's more likely to receive a sequel than Team Bondi's troubled crime thriller. Read more »
