If you were the type to draw fanciful Doom scenes all over your schoolbooks, rejoice! Thanks to the mod Brutal Doom, id's shooter is now every bit as violent as your younger self's doodles. Every dismemberment; every curbstomping; every immolation; every Hell Knight being kicked square in the soul spheres: they're all here. A new version came out last week, letting me post a long-overdue story about this gory marvel.

Over a year after Doom was pulled from Xbox Live Arcade due to publisher Activision's rights expiring, the console port of id Software's seminal shooter is returning. If, for some reason, you want to play Doom on Xbox 360 rather than PC--split-screen multiplayer being the only real acceptable answer--you may buy it again from today.

The official iPhone and iPod touch port of id Software's Doom is now available.
Priced at $6.99, the 76.8MB download packs a total of 36 levels across four episodes: Knee-Deep in the Dead, Shores of Hell, Inferno, and Thy Flesh Consumed.

With id's first-person shooter classic Wolfenstein 3D having already arrived in iPhone form, the studio today issued details on the forthcoming iPhone adaptation of Doom.
The game is expected to be finished up and submitted to the iTunes App Store in the next month, id technical director John Carmack explained in a progress report. Read more »

Though currently at work on the MMO APB, Realtime Worlds is still engaged in talks with Microsoft about a possible Crackdown sequel, according to videogaming247.
It was reported last week that Ruffian Games, a new studio founded by several former Realtime Worlds employees, might get the opportunity to develop Crackdown 2. Though the original was developed by Realtime Worlds, the property is owned by Microsoft. Read more »

A new studio titled Ruffian Games has been formed by ex-Crackdown developers, and their first project may be a sequel to the open-world shooter, according to Gamasutra.
Crackdown lead designer Billy Thomson and other key members have set up shop in Dundee, Scotland, and rumors indicate a Crackdown sequel might be their first project. Read more »

Publisher Capcom has released several new screenshots of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition (PC, X360), a repackaging of the 2007 shooter with a number of additions to the game's multiplayer component, including new weapons, maps and modes.
Colonies includes three new single-player modes as well—score attack, boss rush, and off-limit—with off-limit featuring increased movement speed, more powerful weapons, and unlimited ammo. Read more »

Independent and Scotland-based developer Realtime Worlds today confirmed that it has raised $50 million in funding for its current and future projects, a feat that required the company to sell off a minority of itself.
Founded by Grand Theft Auto creator David Jones, Realtime Worlds was responsible for the super-powered open world title Crackdown (X360). The company is currently working on All Points Bulletin (PC, X360). Read more »

Microsoft has announced that the already-released downloadable Xbox 360 editions of Doom and Assault Heroes will join the Xbox Live Arcade Hits program this Wednesday. At that time, the price of both titles will be permanently reduced from 800 Microsoft Points ($10) to 400 Microsoft Points ($5).

Capcom today officially announced the North American release details for Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions Colonies Edition, an expanded version of the original Lost Planet.
The revamped third person shooter arrives on Xbox 360 and PC on May 27, priced at $29.99. The Xbox 360 edition of the game will be packaged as the Platinum Hits version of Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions.
Colonies features a number of additions to the game's multiplayer component, including new weapons, five new characters, new camera views, new maps and modes. The first details on Capcom's long-rumored Lost Planet: Colonies have appeared, revealing the title to be a beefed-up version of the original Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, which debuted on PC and Xbox 360 last year.
According to the latest issue of Japanese publication Famitsu, the revamped third person shooter will arrive on Xbox 360 and PC, packing new weapons, a new character, new monsters, and new multiplayer maps and modes. Of those new modes, one allows players to battle as the insect-esque Akrid. Read more »
