[Update: 13:24] Disney Interactive has issued a statement confirming layoffs, but stopping short of giving details: "As part of setting a strategic direction for future success in the digital media space, the Disney Interactive Media Group yesterday began a restructuring process."
[Original Story] Rumors are circulating today that Disney Interactive has been been hit by widespread layoffs, throwing the status of its premiere studios into question. Sources told Joystiq that this is the "first round" of layoffs, and includes 250 employees. Read more »

Lighthearted as the source material may be, Disney's Epic Mickey for the Wii met with a harsh reception in many quarters (Metacritic shows quite a range in both critical and user reviews). Its camera system received almost universal disdain, even among those who took a liking to the rest of the game. MTV's 'Clutch Blog' caught up with renowned designer Warren Spector, who led the game's development, to get his thoughts on the issue. Here's what he had to say:

Field Reports provide our first-hand experience with the latest games, but should not be considered a review.
You should know, right up front, that I've only played a few hours of Epic Mickey, the new Disney platformer from Junction Point helmed by Warren Spector (Deus Ex). Unfortunately, that's enough for me. So this is not a review, but rather one of our Field Reports so I can offer my thoughts based on my limited time with the game. It could get better a few more hours in, but based on some of the reports from my peers, I don't think it will ever turn into something I'll enjoy. Read more »

Warren Spector's Epic Mickey will be released on November 30 on the Nintendo Wii, which was revealed by Entertainment Weekly along with a new trailer. You can read our E3 preview if you require more information about the game.
The game will also be available in a collector's edition if you so choose, which comes with a five-inch, vinyl figurine of Mickey, a behind-the-scenes DVD with additional video content and Epic Mickey-themed skins for the Nintendo Wii console and Wii Remote. Read more »
