DeathSpank Dated for PS3 and Xbox 360

Ron Gilbert, one of the creators of The Secret of Monkey Island, will be releasing his new game, DeathSpank, in July. The action-RPG is loaded with humor and loot and will be released on the PlayStation Network on July 13 and on Xbox Live Arcade on July 14.

The downloadable game will run $14.99 (1200 MS Points) and include local co-op gameplay with player 1 manning DeathSpank and player 2 controlling his sidekick, Sparkles the Wizard. Read more »

DeathSpank Story Trailer Introduces DeathSpank

Hothead Games' upcoming downloadable title DeathSpank has received a brand-spanking-new trailer explaining the origin of the titular protagonist.

Based on this little tease, it looks like gaming humorist and mastermind, Ron Gilbert (The Secret of Monkey Island), is up to his old tricks. Including "bratty orphans," "stoopid chickens," and "forbidden bacon," the DeathSpank trailer has it all, and then some. Read more »

Ron Gilbert Leaves Hothead as DeathSpank Nears Completion

Shank and DeathSpank Snagged by EA Partners

In conjunction with showing DeathSpank at PAX 09 and creator Ron Gilbert (Monkey Island) delivering a keynote address, developer Hothead Games has unleashed a wealth of information related to the humorous action-RPG, including a new trailer.

Breaking a long silence following Ron Gilbert's announcement of DeathSpank in 2008, details have arrived on the Monkey Island creator's action adventure via 1up.

The titular "Hero to the downtrodden, a vanquisher of evil, and a dispenser of justice" DeathSpank will solve Monkey Island-style puzzles with trademark Gilbert humour and a dose of lateral thinking--aided by a hint system--and bloody Diablo-style combat. Read more »

Gunstar Heroes, Comix Zone and Other Sega Classics Hit Xbox Live Arcade at $5 Each

The bulk of the second "SEGA Vintage Collection" arrived in the Xbox Live Arcade today, offering six classic SEGA games--Gunstar Heroes, Altered Beast, Shinobi, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3--at 400 Microsoft Points ($5) a pop.

Each has been updated with support for high definition displays and leaderboards, with Gunstar Heroes, Altered Beast and Sonic 3 also getting online multiplayer. Read more »

More Downloadable Sega Classics Coming June 10

Six of the seven downloadable and enhanced classic old-school titles Sega is bringing to the Xbox 360 will arrive on June 10, the company announced today, with the PlayStation 3 re-release of Gunstar Heroes due out the next day, on June 11.

Arriving under the "SEGA Vintage Collection 2" banner, each game will be sold separately at an as-yet-unknown price point, and has been updated to support high definition visuals, online leaderboards, and, if applicable, online play. Read more »

Sega Reviving More Classics on XBLA and PSN: Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 3, Comix Zone and More

More classic titles from publisher Sega will be updated and released via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer, the company announced today.

The downloadable games will be sold individually, with each release being "re-worked for high definition," supporting leaderboards, and, if applicable, sporting online play.

LucasArts Vet Ron Gilbert Announces DeathSpank, Joins Hothead Games; Apocalypse Inbound

Ron Gilbert, the creator of many beloved old-school LucasArts adventure games including Maniac Mansion and The Secret of Monkey Island, has announced his new project: DeathSpank, an episodic RPG-adventure said to mix Monkey Island and Diablo.

Canadian developer Hothead Games, the company behind the upcoming Penny-Arcade episodic RPG series, will be publishing the series, with former advisor Gilbert now joining the studio as its creative director. Hothead writes that the games will follow "the thong-tastic adventures of a misguided hero named DeathSpank," who has previously been featured in animated comics on Gilbert's Grumpy Gamer blog.
