I'll admit it. I got scared by a baby. While I was playing in broad daylight, no less.
But this wasn't just any regular old baby. Oh sure, it looks like a perfectly normal human infant, right up until the point that it sprouts three tentacles and shoots off lethal spikes in a disconcerting attempt to release your innards from their fleshy trappings.

EA Redwood Shores' creepy-crawly sci-fi action game Dead Space has gone gold--meaning the title is complete and has entered the manufacturing process--publisher and studio owner Electronic Arts has announced.
As previously announced and reconfirmed today, the North American release of Dead Space will hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 14, with the PC edition following on October 20. A $150 Ultra Limited Edition of the Xbox 360 version, limited to 1,000 copies, is also available for pre-order from the online EA Store.

Electronic Arts today brings us a new Dead Space video development diary, presenting a look at the game's animation systems as explained by the people that created them.
If animation systems don't sound exciting to you, there are also a lot of gruesome death scenes a la Resident Evil 4.

Continuing the recent trend of ultra-expensive premium collector's editions--see Fallout 3's $120 Survival Edition, the $140 Gears of War 2 Lancer bundle, and Halo 3's $130 Spartan Helmet-- publisher EA has begun offering pricey limited editions of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge in its online store.

Glen Schofield, executive producer of EA Redwood Shores' sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space, added to the speculation circling around the game's possible ban in three countries.
In an interview with IGN Australia, he confirmed that the extra-gory title has been banned in Japan, but for now it's of no concern. "No cuts. We're not softening it for anybody. I think a part of it was, he's not a killer. He's killing aliens and that's why we thought for a while we'd get it through in Germany. And they were like, 'Well, the fact that he can get dismembered pretty grotesquely is bad, so...'" Read more »

EA has released a new development diary video for the sci-fi horror survival game Dead Space showing off the game's zero-gravity scenarios and its implications on gameplay.
The EA Redwood Shores developed title made news last week by getting pushed up instead of delayed and then again by possibly being banned in several countries. It now releases on October 14 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and October 20 for PC. Read more »

Update: Dead Space is not yet banned in Germany, as the game is still under review at ratings board USK, according to Eurogamer.de. (Link is in German.)

EA Redwood Shores' sci-fi survival horror effort Dead Space will arrive in North America even earlier than was once expected, with the game now slated to hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 14, followed by a PC release on October 20.
Created in part by Iron Man and X-Men writer Warren Ellis, Dead Space was originally scheduled to hit in late October. However, the game was finished early, prompting EA to reschedule the console versions for an October 24 release in Europe. Read more »

EA's new sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space had been pegged for an October 31 release date since February, but the company today announced the game will be released a week earlier.
According to the European arm of the publisher, development of the game at EA Redwood Shores finished ahead of schedule, and in Europe the game will now ship October 24 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PC version is still set for an October 31 release. Read more »

Prolific comic book author Warren Ellis, pictured left, has revealed that he played a significant role in writing EA Redwood Shore's upcoming sci-fi survival horror title Dead Space.

EA Redwood Shores' sci-fi survival horror effort Dead Space (PC, PS3, X360) can best be summarized as Resident Evil 4 in space, and no, that's not a bad thing.
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 represents some of the best that survival horror has to offer. Dead Space expands on that, adding in a delicious layer of sci-fi goodness.

At its E3 press event today, Electronic Arts showed off a live demonstration of its upcoming sci-fi action title Dead Space (PC, PS3, 360).
The gameplay highlighted the game's "strategic dismemberment" combat--requiring players to tear enemies limb from limb.
Also shown was the game's holographic heads up display, which projects weapon and item selection in front of the protagonist, with Isaac moving his head as items are selected. Read more »
