It's a good thing that, in space, no one can hear you scream as EA has announced two new frightening spin-off projects in the Dead Space universe for release this winter. Coming in December, EA will release a graphic novel based on the "Dead Space canon" called Dead Space Salvage, followed by a new animated film called Dead Space Aftermath in January 2011.
Aftermath outlines the Government's nefarious plot to send an "unwitting crew" to the site of the Aegis VII disaster, intending to expose the group to "Marker shards." The reason, EA's press release states, is to produce a "viable 'Marker blueprint' carrier, no matter the costs." Read more »

Quick Take: Isaac Clarke is back in a survival-horror games with bigger frights and more variety. Adding a little more variety and personality to a hugely successful formula, this sequel is all about more, more, more.
EA showed a live demo of Dead Space 2 behind close doors at its E3 2010 booth. The demo was roughly ten minutes and showed off several of the game's new features. In addition to the surivial-horror gameplay that made the original a hit, the sequel adds new effects, more varied environments, puzzle solving, and voice acting for the protagonist, Isaac Clarke. While it's easy for a developer to make a controlled demo look cool and fun, this brief glimpse at Dead Space 2 has me thinking that the sequel will outdo its forerunner. Read more »

A short and delightfully unpleasant Dead Space 2 gameplay clip has risen from the sordid depths of E3, showing what happens when necrotic bodily fluids are imbibed.
Those of a nervous disposition may wish to look away as, after failing a quick-time event, Isaac has the charmingly-named 'Puker' spew copious amounts of vomit into his face--something he does now have--but it's all too much for the poor dear and in revulsion he falls to his knees, puking up his puke and the Puker's puke until he croaks. A round of Dead Space 2 screenshots has risen, giving a look at star Isaac's natty new threads and the various monstrosities awaiting the poor chap in the sc-fi horror sequel.
Developer and series creator Visceral Games has said it is "extremely focused on delivering a game that's even better than the original," which apparently necessitates giving the previously-mute Isaac a makeover and a voice then letting him pin enemies to the walls with his Javelin Gun then incinerate them. Fair enough. Read more »
