Dead Space 2 getting free multiplayer maps
Dead Space 2 is getting a free content update that will add two more multiplayer maps, according to the game's Facebook page. The maps are titled the Academy and the Concourse, bundled together as the "Outbreak Map Pack." The pack will hit Xbox Live on May 31, and then come to PSN on June 3. No PC plans were mentioned.
If you're thinking, "wait, June 3 isn't a Tuesday," you're a smart cookie. June 3 is actually a Friday, and one of the dates mentioned in the reportedly leaked memo regarding the PlayStation Store's twice-weekly publishing schedule. Read more »
February NPD: Black Ops sets sales record
The market research firm NPD Group released its retail-only video game industry data for February 2011 last night. Call of Duty: Black Ops took the top spot yet again, making it the top-selling game in history at 13.7 million units in the U.S. alone (via IndustryGamers). Marvel vs. Capcom 3 took second place, followed by the strangely ubiquitous Just Dance 2.
Also notably, Dead Space 2 hung onto a decent slot, while newcomers Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 made respectable debuts considering they were launched late in the reporting cycle. Read more »
PlayStation Store Updated
Amid all the Game Developers Conference announcements, the PlayStation Store update happened right on time -- a little earlier than usual, in fact. Pixeljunk Shooter 2 ($9.99) led the pack, along with a full game download for ModNation Racers ($29.99). PS1-era Square fans can rejoice with the arrival of Vagrant Story ($6.99). Read more »
Cloud gaming service Gaikai goes live
Cloud-based gaming service Gaikai has finally entered public beta testing, CEO David Perry has revealed on his blog. Five games can now be played direct from your browser, including the previously un-demoed PC edition of Dead Space 2.
Requiring no plugins beyond Flash and Java, Gaikai renders games remotely on distributed servers then streams the game back to your computer as streaming video. While input is somewhat lagged and visual quality is understandably lower than it'd be on a top-notch PC--look right for snaps from my own experiences--games are quite playable and will run on relatively low-spec hardware. Dead Space 2 'Severed' DLC Info
Chances are you've finished Dead Space 2 by now, perhaps more than once. If you haven't gotten your fill of slicing off limbs, an EA press release has given word that the previously announced "Severed" downloadable content will be coming in just under a week.
The DLC is set for March 1 on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network in North America. It will cost $6.99 (560 MS Points). European players can expect it on March 2 for the PlayStation Network. Read more »

Dead Space 2 Screens Feature 'Severed' DLC
With Dead Space 2 already spinning horrifyingly on consoles and PCs everywhere, fans who have already been through hell and back may be ready for a new chapter in the series. On January 25, developer Visceral Games announced new content would come to the game in the form of a single-player DLC, dubbed "Severed."
Last night, EA sent over a trio of screens for the DLC that feature some of the game's pulse-raising action; such as the content's star trying to ignore the camera shoved in his face. That darn space paparazzi! Read more »
Visceral Adding Dead Space 2 Customizable Controls in Response to Disabled Gamer's Petition
Visceral Games is hard at work on a patch that will add customizable control options for the PC version of Dead Space 2, after a disabled gamer's request sparked a petition that garnered over 25,000 signatures.
Gareth, a disabled gamer, uses his chin to control the mouse buttons for movement, but Dead Space 2 didn't allow him to remap the controls for his play style. He expressed his disappointment on the Overclockers forum, then took his case to the EA forums asking the developers to consider his request. A subsequent petition has resulted in 25,419 signatures so far. Read more »

Dead Space 2 Review
Developer Visceral Games shocked and delighted gamers with the sci-fi survival-horror shooter Dead Space. Tons of gore, scares, violence, and a psychologically-twisted storyline made for an intense experience. Engineer Isaac Clarke learned the "respond to distress signals in deep space at your own peril" lesson, as he battled grotesque alien-human hybrids, known as Necromorphs. He narrowly escaped with his life, but not before encountering a mysterious sanity-altering monolith called "The Marker."
