Of course there was going to be a "definitive" version of Dead or Alive 5. It was developed by Team Ninja, after all. Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate adds even more content to Dead or Alive 5 Plus, which released on Vita not too long ago. Coming later this year on PS3 and Xbox 360, the "Ultimate" version adds new modes, new stages, and new fighters. And no, you won't be able to simply buy a DLC pack to upgrade your current not-so-Ultimate version of the game.

Dead or Alive 5+ is coming to Vita in March. And like many Vita ports of PS3 games, it includes connectivity with the console version of the game.
Crucially, the Vita and PS3 versions can play against each other. Through "Cross Play," you'll be able to fight online against opponents on either platform. And Team Ninja promises that battles will run at 60fps on both systems.

Dead or Alive 5 Plus, the Vita port of Team Ninja's latest fighter, is coming on on March 19. Yes, this spring you can treat yourself to some alarmed stares on the bus for publicly playing a game that prides itself on jiggle physics and lovingly rendered string bikinis.

Bif! Bam! Pow! Do you like punching women then watching them jiggle? Do you like punching women then watching them jiggle on public transport? Then you're in luck! Team Ninja's jiggly fighting game Dead or Alive 5 is coming to PlayStation Vita in early 2013, under the name Dead or Alive 5 Plus.

A free pack of costumes for Dead or Alive 5 dropped today, with 11 new sets of glad rigs to punch and jiggle in. Given how absurd Dead or Alive is, the new outfits are surprisingly sensible and unrevealing. Well, aside from the big silver space-Teletubby up there.

While Team Ninja attempted to go a more serious route with Ninja Gaiden 3, it appears the studio is back to its old ways with Dead or Alive 5. The busty female leads of their fighting franchise are going to be showing off their goods yet again.
A GameStop-exclusive collector's edition promises to include a steel case, hardcover art book, soundtrack CD, and a "I'm a Fighter" poster. Oh, and "premium swimsuit costumes for the full cast of playable female characters in the game."

Downloadable content has become a matter of course, especially when it comes to fighting games and additional characters. But Dead or Alive 5 won't be offering extra fighters as DLC, as Team Ninja feels that the practice makes the game "unfair" and throws off the balance.
"We have no plans to sell characters as downloadable content," said Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi.

You can learn a lot of things about a game through its demo: whether it controls well, how the visual style works, if the voice acting is grating. Or, if you're enterprising enough, you can learn all of its secrets, as in the case of the recently released Dead or Alive 5 demo.

Crossovers are all the rage in fighting games. While it may not be as all-inclusive as Street Fighter x Tekken, Team Ninja has revealed a special surprise guest character for Dead or Alive 5.
Virtua Fighter's Akira will be a playable character in the fighting game sequel. It isn't the first time the franchise has seen a guest character. Dead or Alive 4, for example, featured a Spartan from the Halo franchise.

Team Ninja explained at Tokyo Game Show that the goal for Dead or Alive 5 is to be more than a fighting game. It needs to be "fighting entertainment." The use of highly dynamic backgrounds and environments, mixed with some cinematic camera angles, certainly makes DOA5 look unlike any fighter out there.
But, is it too much? We can't help but wonder how this game will actually play in this extended gameplay clip. It looks incredible--but will it be more fun to watch than actually play?

Team Ninja is showing no signs of slowing down. Ever since shipping Dead or Alive 4, the team has been thinking about how to "evolve the game," Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi told journalists at Tokyo Game Show. The concept is no longer to be just a fighting game, Hayashi explained. The goal for Dead or Alive 5 is to be "fighting entertainment."
Key to that vision is the introduction of even larger, more dynamic environments.
