Rumor: Crytek Hiring for MMO Project

Thanks to games like Far Cry and Crysis, developer Crytek has firmly cemented itself as a purveyor of visually stunning first-person shooters. Crysis 2 is just around the corner (the series first foray onto consoles), due out sometime between October and the end of December.

New happenings seem to be afoot at Crytek, however. Based on a recent job posting, Crytek may have another big project in the works - one that is massively-multiplayer in nature. The job post, reprinted from LinkedIn by industry site superannuation, notes that the new position would be responsible for "designing, testing, and implementing as part of the development team, the systems infrastructure for an MMO online game." Electronic Arts Updates Its Release Schedule, Seemingly Confirms Dead Space 2 PC

As mega-publisher Electronic Arts begins to detail its annual earnings, the company has also issued a revised schedule detailing its "key titles" through March 2011.

For the most part, the list is similar to the one the company issued in February 2010, though a couple games have been shifted around and / or properly announced.

Perhaps the most noteworthy detail contained within is the listing for Dead Space 2 PC, which was at one time certain but then relegated to being under consideration. Read more »

Crysis 2 is the "greatest product that is going to come out this year," David DeMartini, general manager of publisher EA Partners, declared before welcoming Cevat Yerli to the stage.

Yerli, one of the co-founders of Crysis 2 developer Crytek, then spoke at length about the upcoming sci-fi shooter sequel. He talked about why it's set in New York City. He talked about the changes made to the super-powered Nanosuit that players wear in-game and how players will be able to customize it. He talked about how novelist Richard Morgan came to be lead writer on the project. Read more »

Crysis 2 First Look Preview

One of the primary goals behind Crysis 2 was to make the super-powered abilities of the Nanosuit more accessible, Crytek president Cevat Yerli told the assembled crowd in New York City's Grand Tribeca Hotel. As such, the developer has streamlined the four powers of the original (Stealth, Speed, Strength, Armor) into two for the shooter sequel--Armor and Stealth.

But that doesn't necessarily mean players of the sequel will have less abilities. [UPDATE] To clarify, Crysis 2 allows players to switch between two main modes, Armor and Stealth, usable alongside additional Power or Tactical functionality. Power provides elements of Strength and Speed, and Stealth lets one move about the level both invisibly and silently for a brief amount of time, as noted by an on-screen indicator.
