Capcom Wins Dead Rising Trademark Lawsuit

Capcom has won a lawsuit over film production company MKR Group, who alleged that Capcom stole from MKR's Dawn of the Dead (1978) to make Dead Rising (360), the well-received zombie-massacre action game.

United States Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg granted Capcom's motion seeking relief from a lawsuit after MKR threatened to sue. "The few similarities MKR has alleged are driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall during a zombie outbreak," claimed Capcom in the motion. Read more »

Four Hardcore Wii Game Previews: A Look at The Conduit, MadWorld, Call of Duty 5 and Dead Rising

So we know Nintendo has the market cornered on Wii brain trainers, and walking trainers, and games about collecting bells. But what is there for us, the hardcore gamers? What about the people that dabble in Mario, but want nothing more than to ignore that bell business, kill that obnoxious Tom Nook and take his loot?

Last week I had a chance to preview Nintendo's upcoming Wii lineup at the company's fall media summit. And while the new DS and the handheld platform's strong lineup dominated the news, I was more interested in what Nintendo was showing off on the Wii. After all, my Wii has been dormant for months. I wanted to know whether I should expect four more months of the same, or some real change from Nintendo's platform. Read more »

More Dead Rising on the Way, Teases Capcom

As Capcom readies the Wii edition of its zombie-slaying action title Dead Rising (360), the publisher has begun hinting that more Dead Rising titles are on the way, including a possible PlayStation 3 release.

"You haven't seen the last of Dead Rising," Capcom's John Diamonon wrote in the comments section of the official PlayStation blog, responding to a fan's complaint that the original Dead Rising only arrived on Xbox 360. Read more »

Film production company MKR Group has filed suit against Capcom over an alleged copyright infringement by Capcom's 2006 zombie action thriller, Dead Rising (X360), Reuters reports.

The company claims that Dead Rising is a cut-and-dry adaptation of Dawn of the Dead, a 1978 zombie horror film set in a shopping mall for which MKR owns the copyright. Earlier this month, MKR notified Capcom, Best Buy and Microsoft of its intentions to file suit if a settlement could not be reached. Read more »

Capcom Sues to End Dead Rising Trademark Dispute

Related Topics – Dead Rising, , Crash Nitro Kart, Capcom

Capcom has filed a complaint in the US District Court for declaratory relief against the MKR Group, which has repeatedly claimed that Capcom's zombie action title Dead Rising (X360) violates MKR's Dawn of the Dead trademark.

The company is seeking attorney's fees and a declaration from the Court that Dead Rising does not infringe on MKR's trademark. A 1978 zombie horror film set in a shopping mall, Dawn of the Dead is considered by many to be a direct inspiration for Dead Rising. A loose remake of the film was released in 2004. Read more »
