I decided to go ahead and post this bright and early for the heck of it. A little while ago I took a trip to Gearbox Software to find out just what in the world Condition Zero was. What I discovered was not some goofy find the key plot thrown in to the Counter-Strike game, but a clever approach that should pleasantly surprise Counter-Strike fans. CZ is slated for release 2nd quarter of this year.
How do you do that? Package a modem and a dial-up account in every box? Include a video or DVD? Send Pat Hook door to door to AWP every customer on a LAN? Well I think Gearbox came up with one of the smartest and eloquent solutions possible. They took Counter-Strike and combined it with... wait for it.... Tony Hawk Skater 3!?. [snip]
I'm certain there are more questions that I could have answered, and there is a revelation in there about the future of online Counter-Strike as well which will probably frighten and confuse some folks. Hopefully I can do a nice follow-up addressing whatever comes up in a week or so and include that with the extra images and footage I'm expecting from Valve.

Here's a PR announcing the official release quarter for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. They have narrowed down the release time frame for the game to a 3 month period between April and June of this year.
[...] announced a Q2 2002 release for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero(tm), an extensive new product that introduces single player and co-op gameplay modes to the number-one online action game in the world*. A new stand-alone product, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (CS:CZ) extends the award-winning Counter-Strike multiplayer game with new maps, weapons and more, while simultaneously introducing new technologies, an extensive single player campaign, and cooperative play.[snip]
I've been working on a preview of Condition Zero which will contain a couple of gameplay surprises after visiting GearBox last week. I'm also gonna shoot for some additional media (level fly-throughs) like Maarten's DOD2 preview since those were so cool. That probably wont happen until next week now looking at the current situation though. Doh.

So I've returned home from a quick road trip up to Dallas to check out Counter-Strike: Condition Zero up at Gearbox, which means now comes the part that involves writing up what I saw and hopefully explaining to people what type of game it is and who it will appeal to most and why. In addition to that though I'd like to ask you guys to post any questions that you'd like to see answered in the article concerning Condition Zero. Please, only questions about the game, anything else is off the topic and will be moderated as such. Questions?

HalfLife.nu is the latest to quiz Randy Pitchford of Gearbox about the upcoming single/multiplayer Counter-Strike game. There are Q&As on the current state of the project, winter climate missions, multiplayer compatability with the current Counter-Strike mod/game, people from the Counter-Strike community who are contributing to CZ, the bot AI, and a few other things.
skalmanxl: To get to the core of the interview, how is CS:CZ's development coming along?
Randy Pitchford: Condition Zero is now feature complete. WeÂ’ve got some front end interface work to do and tons of polishing and play balancing. ThereÂ’s also a few maps that are in their final stages of development. As all of the content is complete, weÂ’ll be polishing a few things to internal quality standards before entering a more severe Beta phase with Valve and our publisher.
CS: Condition Zero is due out early next year.
