Beloved developer Valve has released lifetime retail sales figures for some of its more popular games, including the Half-Life and Counter-Strike series, revealing that the studio has sold over 32.8 million games since the 1998 release of the first Half-Life.
Sales from Valve's digital distribution client are not factored in, with the figures only accounting for worldwide retail sales. With Half-Life 2, Valve began simultaneously releasing all of its PC games at retail and via Steam. The numbers were originally printed in the November issue of Game Informer, then republished by Gamasutra. Read more »

The latest Steam news update is available, giving us some new info on the Counter-Strike: Source update that Valve has been promising. It's being released tomorrow, and in addition to the new cs_compound map, an old favorite is returning as well as de_train will be included. Here are two pics from that.
The update will also include some bot fixes, an enhancement to the radar and a bugfix for HL2DM (no more playing as headcrabs). Thanks DeviantPaul.

Valve sent along word that they are already sending out some updates for CZ over Steam, here's the word:
Version 1.1 of CS:CZ will be released next week via Steam. The update includes a new "Buy Package" system for buying favorite loadouts quickly, the CS:CZ Custom Mission Creation Kit, all new player and weapon models, new audio content, and other enhancements. The new purchase system features four user-definable "Buy Packages." Each Package represents a complete equipment load out, allowing players to define everything from their primary weapon to how much ammo to buy to fallback options if money is tight. With the CS:CZ Mission Creation Kit, MOD authors can create their own Tour of Duty Mission Packs with custom challenges, bot personalities, bot skins, and more. These MOD Mission Packs can then be distributed to players as Zip files. When installed, the new mission pack will automatically appear within CZ's mission menu.
Oh since it seems to be the hip thing to do just a little warning... You can save your diatribes about how old Counter-Strike is or how much you dislike Steam for another day.

This press release can't be right. It seems that Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is actually going to be released. I don't see any pigs fly by just yet, but apparently the game is shipping to stores March 23. Once it shows up there, it should be yours to own for $39.99.
