Tim Schafer's studio, Double Fine Productions, has been on quite the roll lately, making games like Brutal Legend and Stacking. But, none of them have appeared on PC. Why? "We have always said that if it were up to us, we’d release our games for the PC," Schafer said in a press release "Well, now... it’s finally up to us!"
Adorable Halloween-themed RPG Costume Quest will be the first PC game from the studio in over six years, since Psychonauts.

When Brutal Legend and Costume Quest developer Double Fine announced its new title Stacking earlier this week, many were disappointed to see that this will be the third game in a row from the indie developer to not hit PC. Here's why it won't.
While Double Fine Productions already has "much of the technology in place to produce PC versions of all these games," studio founder Tim Schafer explains in the recently-updated DF FAQ (via Eurogamer), publishers simply "don't see enough financial reward" in bringing Double fun to PC gamers. Garnett, Brian, and Jeff confirm what's sure to be an awesome weekend (and week to come). The festivities kickoff in Whatcha Been' Playin? with Medal of Honor, Rock Band 3, Costume Quest, Fallout: New Vegas, and more. Our skipping cutscenes discussion became the most talked about subject this past week and leads off the Warning. There's also the question of how well shooters handle the sensitivities of real-world situations and whether game designs include things like crouching simply out of habit. A full slate of news wraps the show up in the Front Page with Patrice Desilets' new THQ Montreal studio, Kinect adding support for seated players, Steam posting tremedous growth stats, and more.

Last Friday evening at the IndieCade 2010 awards, eleven independent games received awards for excellence in a variety of categories. Along with the crop of stellar games honored, Double Fine Entertainment's founder, and beloved game developer, Tim Schafer, received the festival's very first "IndieCade Honorary Trailblazer award for Lifetime Achievement."
I caught up with Tim after the ceremony to congratulate him on the award, and he was kind enough to spend a few minutes chatting a bit about the October 20-due downloadable game, Costume Quest, what it's like to make games at Double Fine, and about transitioning from huge multi-year development projects to focus on a greater number of smaller games. Double Fine head honcho Tim Schafer has revealed that the studio's Hallowe'en RPG Costume Quest will be released for download on box 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 20, not Halloween itself as was thought, priced at $15 (1200 Microsoft Points).
Created by Double Fine lead animator Tasha Harris, Costume Quest stars a plucky group of kids trying to repel a monster invasion of their neighbourhood on Hallowe'en night. In Double Fine's words, "Players go door-to-door collecting candy, points, cards, battle stamps and quest assignments as they prepare themselves for Combat Mode--where they transform into larger-than-life versions of their costumes."

Back in July, Double Fine Productions head Tim Schafer announced that the company would be releasing four downloadable games following EA's non-committment to a Brutal Legend sequel. The first of those games, Costume Quest, has been revealed by UGO.
The game's concept was created by Double Fine lead animator Tasha Harris, who now leads the game's development team, with Schafer supporting this and the three other projects as needed. Costume Quest is an action/RPG that follows a young boy trying to find his sister after she is lost while trick-or-treating on Halloween. Read more »
