Diabolical Pitch begins when its protagonist, big-league baseball player McAllister, throws his shoulder out during a career-defining game. His arm is never really the same after that day. Some time later, he's a grousing, growling husk with a bad arm, pessimistic and beaten down. Likely without intending to, designer Suda 51 created the perfect metaphor for how it feels to play his game. I stepped into the cleats of a sad, frustrated man whose arm doesn't work the way it should, and more than anything I just wanted to go back to the way things were before it all happened.

Despite the legendary stature of the SOCOM franchise, Sony pulled the plug on series developer Zipper Interactive after a string of three successive releases that came up short of their hype. MAG, SOCOM 4, and Unit 13, one of a handful of strong titles for the new Vita system, all failed to find the winning formula the developer had down so well with SOCOM 2. Team Meat announced plans to bring Super Meat Boy to iOS and android, but as a proper new game and not a port. And Diabolical Pitch and Xenoblade Chronicles headline this week's new releases.

The mysterious Kinect game from Suda51's studio Grasshopper Manufacture now has an official name: Diabolical Pitch. The official name for the project formerly known as Codename D was revealed today at the Tokyo Game Show. Like most Suda games, the title makes a crazy kind of sense, as the game revolves around throwing baseballs at creepy animal mascots. We call this brand of strange logic "Suda-sense."

At Microsoft's press briefing at Tokyo Game Show 2010, the company announced five Xbox 360 exclusive partnerships with Japanese development companies. Overall, details were light, but there are some big developers involved, including Suda-51.
