The excellent indie game Cave Story has been available on the DS, WiiWare, and PC for a while but a new version of the game has been launched for the PC and Mac. Developers Nicalis and Studio Pixel have revealed Cave Story+ is now available on Steam. Not only does to updated version give action-adventure fans another way to try what many folks believe is one of the best indies ever made, it's also the version with the most bells and whistles.

The much-beloved indie action-adventure game Cave Story is being remade yet again, this time as a retail release for the Nintendo 3DS, GamesRadar reports.
Cave Story 3D, as it's called, will bring the series away from sprites and into 3D to take advantage of the new handheld's main selling point. The game will still be in the same side-scrolling perspective, though. Cave Story 3D will be a remake of the original, with a few new areas, secrets and easter eggs. Read more »

Developer Hothead Games has confirmed that its new action-puzzle title Swarm will be released on both Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network in "early 2011."

Yesterday, we reported that Cave Story could be getting a DSiWare release. This has been confirmed by Nicalis, the developer responsible for the WiiWare port of Pixel's original game.
The port "has Pixel's blessing" and is in "final testing internally," according to a Nicalis representative. In other news, the EU WiiWare version of Cave Story is still "scheduled to be released." We've asked for a concrete release date. Read more »

Nintendo Power has listed Cave Story as a DSiWare title in the latest issue, which could mean that the PC game turned WiiWare release could be going portable.
Cave Story began life as a free PC game, developed in Japanese by a single person who goes by "Pixel". It has been translated and ported to numerous platforms. It can be downloaded for free, though some are strictly homebrew versions. Read more »

A swarm of fifty adorable blue Swarmites is the star of DeathSpank and Penny Arcade Adventures developer Hothead Games new title Swarm, announced at E3.
"Swarm lets the player take control of 50 utterly fearless Swarmites and drive them through an intense, entertaining and often suicidal battle for a greater good," publisher Ignition explains. Only one Wii title is in this week's batch of Wii and DSi downloadable release but it's a corker--Studio Pixel's much-praised Castlevania-like action adventure Cave Story. Over on the DSi, Nintendo's classic Game & Watch handhelds return complete with 'ghosts' of inactive sprites plus there's more tower defense and racing fun.

As Daisuke Amaya prepares to release his acclaimed 2D PC action-adventure game Cave Story on Wii, screenshots of the downloadable WiiWare title have emerged.
Packing new content exclusive to the Wii version, Cave Story and its Metroid-like antics are slated to arrive later this year. No price point has been announced.

Cave Story, a freeware 2D PC action game by Daisuke Amaya, will arrive on Wii as a downloadable WiiWare game, Nintendo has announced.
"This title is an action-adventure game with new, exclusive content and features created only for the WiiWare version," reads the relevant chunk of a Nintendo press release.
Bearing a mild resemblance to Nintendo's Metroid series, Cave Story follows hero Quote as he awakens deep in a cave with no memory of how he got there. The game has garnered worldwide praise as well as ports for Mac OS, Linux, other operating systems, and homebrew ports for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS. Read more »
